After posting in another thread about the alignment tool, I was wondering, what tools does some one need to work on Seadoos? I don't mean the basic hand tools like 10mm sockets and such, but the "special not your everyday tools".
Where might the best place be to buy/rent these tools?
1. Alignment tool
2. Impeller tool
3. pump bearing "push tool" + a press of some sort???
4. flywheel puller
5. Stubby 17mm (I think) for exhaust bolts for a 787.
6. What else??

Homemade 15mm wrench for that stupid exhaust nut on the 951 pipes
Alignment tool is pretty essential
Impeller tool is $15
VTS nut tool is $27...makes the job so easy
Flywheel puller...recommend buying the OEM for 787 and 951s...SLP extreme for 580-720
Pump bearing tools...Dr Honda makes them. Yes youll need a press
I just picked up a programmer....VERRRRY nice!
I have cut some of my long allens down
spark checker
connector pin tool

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head.

two of my favorites right there, having allens cut down for carb & pipe removal (especially on the 951) is really nice.

and i'm amazed at how often I use the pin connector tool ! Under $10 shipped on ebay, i ordered 3 for like $18 shipped and gave two away to friends.

also a few things that get used pretty often around my place....

a nice little pry par to push back & remove the clip on the driveline.

i'm also a big fan of a nice bench vise and a decent bench grinder with wire brush installed on one side.

a decent cordless drill with socket attachments.

a nice 3/8 extension set for pump removal.

and a small nut driver set for hose clamps, flat heads are so 90's.

a spare nut for the fuel selector so you don't have to buy a huge socket for that and you can just pop it off with a screwdriver and a hammer :)

I can't make it thru 24 hours w/o a wire cutter and using 2 zip ties

a small tube of goop hand cleaner, a bag of 20 cotton rags from HDepot.

can of carb/brake clean

can of fluid film or c-block, little tube of D-grease

small grease gun for zerk fittings

good battery/trickle charger and a portable air pump.

bearing grease, floorjack & jack stand.

the cheap little trailer light checker thing.

multimeter

gallon of purple power

a short pipe to turn your 3/8 socket into a breaker bar :)

Agreed...I have pin tools in stock for sale; $15 shipped by themselves, $10 shipped with parts.

I am also a BIG fan of the cordless impact drivers; the ones they sell next to the drills. Make sure to buy Impact bit sets, dont skimp or they will snap. REMINDER!!! They do have sparks in the armature area so MAKE SURE the hull isnt filled with fuel vapor.

OH...how could I forget...high speed die grinder with the EZ attach scotchbrite pads. They sell them at Harbor Freight and I cant tell you how much I seem to use those.

I also use a dremmel fairly often.

Thanks, I just bought a GSX w/ a 951, so please explain further about the 951 homemade 15mm for a 951 and the VTS nut tool.

The ski needs a new lanyard(per Spim), What exactly would some one send you for the above ski? Just the gray box??? I'll do some investigating first.

Theres a nut almost impossible to reach on the Ex mani. Tim will show it to you. SBT sells a cheap version, but they are too soft. I take a 15mm obstruction wrench from harbor freight and grind it real thin and give it a little bend.

VTS nut tool allows you to get the big plastic nut off w/o removing the pump. If you plan on owning a few seadoos or flipping them...its a time saver.

Thanks, can you post a pic of the 2 tools? What is an "Obstruction" wrench? Never heard that term before.

what nut? half of the 951's I pull are missing it ! (since people don't have the wrench lol)

Don't forget a case of beer! Its damn near essential you'll never get anything fixed without a case pints!

I agree & you sound like Griz, and I like your thinking about "pints" instead of just the minor elbow benders of 12 oz (355ml for you) of Labatt Blue

LOL good point...and to drown your sorrows when you find broken chit!

Would you have the (sorry for this terrible description) seadoo boot tool for sale? The one that allows you to compress drive shaft boot/bellow to get at that damn driveline clip. If so pm me paypal ready.

The oetiker clamp tool is a nice to have, but I managed to get mine back on the pto boot with a pair of mini 90 degree wire cutters.

Hmm I think I may have to get one of those. A few months ago I had to work on a few plugs on the gtx, I was wondering how the correct way to get the pins out was :banghead: lol The frustration of trying to do it without a tool would definitely be worth the $10, thanks guys!

My Seadoo tool list is:

1) Alignment tool
2) Pump tools (bearing tools)
3) Electrical Pin tool
4) Impeller tool.
5) Pop-off too for the carbs

Everything else can be done with regular shop tools. (volt meter, compression gauge, etc)

The "Extended" tool set is... (the nice to have tools)

1) Thread in flywheel puller
2) Dial indicator for TDC
3) Degree wheel for the RV. (but I've broken the plastic versions, and I just use paper now)
4) Lifting eye's (for pulling an engine)

That's all I can think of right now.

1)Inspection mirror so you can see what you are doing while you stand on your head to reach crap you can't see.
2)Bandaids for the busted knuckles. :cuss:

And just how the H@#L are you supposed to torque that stupid nut on the 951?

i can snap a pic of one this afternoon if nobody else does before me. Its a pain in the azz.

That's one engineer that I'd like to kick in the nuts, I think its the same prick that used to work at Chrysler and decided to put the car battery behind the front passenger wheel on the 300 models...

Its on the bottom side of the pipe. You cant see it from the top side plus the pipe itself angles down over it. There is a recess in the pipe just big enough to slip a wrench over the nut. Its so close the flange doesn't even have a hole, instead it has a slot to slide it onto the bolt. But the manual gives you a torque spec for it. :o

Granted this pic has the air box and carbs removed but normally you can hardly even get to the nut.

Wow! I there was an annoying one on the 787 tuned pipe but nothing like that! Do they expect you to pull the motor to get at that ... then just drop it back in.

Thanks for posting!

Doubt you could get the motor in or out with the pipe attached.

you can get the pipe out intact on some models, maybe all of them but its quite difficult, actually on the GSX's its not that bad, the last one I did on a gtx was really annoying and I ended up splitting the pipe's to avoid further hassles. its better to keep the pipe intact if possible (not splitting it) because its a real fukerbutt to get it back on and clamped after its split.

but of course that nut has to come off to get the pipe off !

i'll shoot a pic of the underside over lunch.
