Well the wife's saturn blew the engine this week. The Tahoe MPG isnt the greatest so we picked up a nice gas saver. Guy at uhaul says he has a hitch rated at 3000 lbs. The new Speedster 200 might be pushing it close to that but im hoping for 30mpg while towing with this hog.

Foster you have done so many cool things with your boats that I was surprised you were thinking of letting a guy from Uhaul lead you this far astray!

He may have a hitch rated at 3000 lbs but that vehicle was never designed to haul more than 2/3rds that amount!

This is a compact vehicle with a 4 cylinder engine that has such a low towing capacity that Kia won't even list that spec on their website! It will be a great commuter but stick with the Tahoe.

Check your door jam for the specs but the only thing I could find online was a 200lb tongue weight and 2,000 lbs.

You are going to find that the 20ft speedster 200 full of fuel and gear is going to be best pulled by that fullsized SUV you already have. Call a Kia shop to be absolutely sure.

Good luck

Dude, you had me on that one! HA! Good one.
The funny part is yahoos on the Kia boards who actually do want to tow with that vehicle!

Hey Rich,

I have a 16hp Craftsman lawn tractor, I'll loan you. It's trailer ready it has a 2" ball and I have towed my ski from the garage to the shed in the back yard.

Glad, I saw this message before posting.. Otherwise, I was about to go thru Foster all the Tow Rig discussion and put all the links here

I know most will think I'm crazy but just ordered a receiver hitch for my 2008 Prius. I'm going to attempt to pull a 96XP about 8 miles to a lake near my house. If I feel like it's too much of a strain, will probably just use the hitch to carry bikes, but the ski & trailer feels very light and I think it might work. Heck I pull the thing around my yard. Hitch is rated at 2000 lbs I believe.

nah, you're not crazy at all, i'm sure any car can pull any single trailer, if it isn't able to, then it probably shouldn't be on the road

Single skis are cake to tow. You probably have more torque than most gas-only cars actually. A guy on the Yamaha jetboaters site has a Silverado Hybrid to tow his 23ft Yamaha and loves the torque of that setup. It's all electric when starting out.

Keep in mind, the rating of the hitch is superseded by the rating of the vehicle. I'm sure it's a class 1 hitch, so the class may be rated at 2,000 and 200 tongue weight. But your vehicle may not be.

Good luck!

Thanks. They don't recomend towing with the Prius so there is no official weight limit. I saw today the XP dry weight is 434 lb and the trailer probably around 200, so I'd guess the total won't be over 750 lbs. I believe the vehicle can handle that weight fairly easy especially here in this part of Georgia which is relatively flat. I'll post a shot of my setup this weekend along with the results of my trial run!
