The VTS will go up but not down. Tried tracking the problem by doing the following;

I started at the switch, put the ohm meter on it and get a reading when I would squeeze the button.

Then I went to the 6 prong connector and put the tester in there, black to ground prong from meter and tested both the GR/wh and BL/WH wires. When I squeezed the button I would get a reading with the ohm meter. This worked for both wires.

Then I went to the VTS box and hooked up the volt meter. When hooked up to either wire I would get 12v. When I hit the up button I could hear a click and the volts would drop to 0. I then switched the prong to the other wire (down wire) and hit the button, there is no click and the 12v remain on the meter.

I hooked the motor straight to the battery and it would spin, cross the wires and it would spin the other way, so the motor itself I believe is functioning properly

I am not sure where to go from here. Is it something internal in the VTS module? Or did I miss diagnose something?

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Kicker,

I've got a troubleshooting guide for the VTS, I'll see if I can find it a post it tomorrow.

remove the vts button cover and push the down button. mine has the same problem and its that the cover doesnt reach the button to press it

hey kicker, my 98 xpl did the same thing.now, it might not be the same problem as yours,but, i think it is,from what u described in your tests.
in my ski,the limit switch was stuck,inhibiting movement,in the diag tree (the one that is posted above)it says,(i know this sounds harsh)to smack sharply the side of the vts box,to try n dislodge the reed switch.i did it a few times,then,while pressing the up button, i smacked the crap out of it.,well,it worked,the vts went up n down perfect.it has stuck a couple more times,usually in rough water,when my kids hold it on too long,so i know the reed switch is doomed,but the smack method works each time.u might try it n get lucky,it may not work for u at all.

I run into the opposite problem, goes down but won't come back up after a few times. Didn't start happening until I replaced the vts rod. The gauge works properly. I normally just leave it full up.
