My XP is gonna touch water for the first time in 11 years tomorrow. Can somebody tell me the factory set idle speed in and out of water. I have a digital Tiny Tach/hour meter. Thx!

Man, what a blast! I was on the water at 7:45 this morning and this thing screams as hard as it did 11 years ago when my father pushed it back in the corner of his barn. He will be 79 this year...he bought the ski used in 96 locally on the lake here. About 115 hours on it now.

Holy moly that thing is CLEAN! That is a peice of art right there. NICE....

Thanks for all the kind words...I have to give my dad credit for the cleaning. After he learned I was pulling it out and working on the carbs and fuel lines, he was fired up to start the cleaning once I finished the mechanical. He scrubbed on it for two days after coming up from FL after Memorial Day...(snowbird). History...he bought the XP800 (in 1996) after hearing me raving (no pun intended) about the 95 XP800 when they were released. I unfortunately was only an E-4 in the Air Force at the time and could only afford the new 720 XP back then. He picked it up with 85 hours on it for $3200 in 96. My dad is really a gear head...he's an old drag boat racer from the 70's. He also owned the gray GSX Limited 951 (purchased new) too that would out run this very easily after he did a Group K stage 1 mod. We use to drag race each other and I always pulled him out of the hole on the XP (its stock). Harry Klemm (Group K) modded one of my KX80's back in the day too in my amatuer MX days. Sorry to rant on...what else is in the barn? How about a loved 96 Warlock 25' Cat with a Mercruiser 540 naturally aspirated. Sorry for the DL confusion...I'm actually in VA. DL reg doesn't charge me personal property tax.

In reply to racerxxx comment on the water condition.

Yeah, it was nice...but it got pretty crappy throughout the day. In the slick water, I was trimmed all the way up and it wasn't porpoising, although the ski has a set of extended trim tabs. I made them as a training project in the AF back in the day...my first CNC 2D project.

Thanks anke for the gauge block off! Looks much better than the hole that was there. I was going to paint a seadoo logo on there, but that's more work than it's worth with my limited free time.

So I tried upgrading the impeller and took a pretty decent step backwards here.

Stock engine with worx grate, r&d 3* tabs, and beachhouse sponsons that cause a little drag vs the stock parts. 56.5 mph gps @ 6960rpm with beat up stock prop and worn wear ring, put in a fresh OEM wear ring and an Impros reworked Solas XO (Impros box says 16.5/24 pitch) only was able to hit 54.3 mph @ 6720rpm and feels slower too. Maybe has a slight bit better midrange pull but that was the only plus I noticed with the XO.

Im pretty disappointed but now I guess I will send my stock impeller to get reworked and put it back in for now. Stock motor cant pull enough rpm with the XO. I have R&D nozzles too but didnt bother trying them with the XO installed, they would pull the rpm down even more. I had tried them with the beat stock prop and worn wear ring and lost 200-250 rpm, lost some holeshot but felt a hair faster on the top vs stock nozzles. Didn't have a gps at the time to test max speed with.

I'm turning 6800 on a full tank with 85 88 nozzles and a stock prop. I have tabs 0 degree beach house sponsons and a jd #6 grate

I have a minty Concord 15/23 in a spare pump I pulled off a parts ski that I could try with stock and R&D nozzles. I need to get a caliper to measure the nozzles I am assuming they are 85/88s (edit: bought a caliper, they are 85/88s) they were also on the same parts ski with the concord 15/23, it was a Spec 2 piped & NOVI carbed boat.

I figure if I put in the 15/23 swirl I would gain holeshot and rough water hookup but loose top speed, but hell I lost 2.2mph with the XO so maybe the concord would work good.

I like blasting in a straight line and all but generally I ride the buoy course at Body Beach, so Im most concerned with good pull out of tight corners without loading the engine down too much and a higher average speed, more so than the highest top speed.

Tried the 85/88s with the XO for the hell of it, still hit the same 6720rpm as the XO and stock nozzles. Could feel it was putting a pretty heavy load on the engine. Hit 56.5 on first pull, next pull 55.5, and one last pull only 54.7 so I will be trying the 15/23 next possibly if not just putting a refurbished stocker back in for now.
