Has anyone ever tried the Sport Port? I bought these magnets that go on the inside of the Jugs and outline where to port. I've been too busy trying to just keep my stock ski running, and haven't tried them yet. I do have all the tools though. Curious if anyone has ever touched that dark art of porting...

I did some port mapping back in the day, basically using tracing paper to copy existing porting and see what it did to timing of the engine.

I read up on it a bunch but never followed through, the most I have done is cleaned up burrs and casting flaws.

What is sport port?

I think the company is race logic, they sell these flat flexible magnets that you can use to trace out where you need to widen the port. They have some youtube videos and a pdf. I would like to try it when I'm ready to build my fast ski

I have many ported engines and cases but I've done very little of the porting myself. I mostly just have to match parts so they work well together.

What year are the x4s I was looking at a spark to go along with my 97 xp but instead id rather have a 2 stroke! Nothing beats that sound and simplicity!

You would want a 787 powered X4 which were the rare 95 XP800 models, or more commonly the 96 XP, or 97-99 SPX. The standard 95 XP and the 96 SPX were also X4 hulls but came with the smaller less powerful 717 engine.

I love my spx, but the motor will set you back a pretty penny. Worth it though as no used motor can be relied on anyway.

Hey Guys

I just bought 3 X4's. 1 95' XP and 2 96 SPX's. The XP is clean besides some handlebar mold and the SPX's look like they came out of the showroom besides some gelcoat knicks and one decal is a little torn.

I am going to do fuel selectors, fuel filters, fuel lines & carb rebuilds in all 3. I took the XP out yesterday and it ran great but I've been down this road before and I know what needs to be done first!

Know how much lighter it is than the 95 720 hull? I'm trying to decide if its worth the weight saving to glass in new mounts in this 95xp800 i have or go the easy route and use the 95xp720 hull I have which makes the kawi 1100 swap a bolt in process. The 800 hull has been painted so I'm not sure how much trouble its going to be sanding down the paint. Either hull will be painted entirely I'm just trying to decide if its worth the extra work that the 800 hull will require

Probably not worth it for 15 or 20 lbs savings

Try that aerosol paint stripper on the hull. It may peel that paint easily and you can just wipe it off. It worked well on a painted bar pad i had so i'd think it would work great on a hard surface.

I would just use the 95 xp 717 hull, as the mounts are ready to go for the kawi adapter plate.

Interesting. How do you go about making the custom shaft? What about the shaft seal at the thru hull fitting?

If I remember correctly rad dudes and/or rhaas makes an adapter plate that allow you to utlize the stock 717 mounts in an HX to mount a kawi 1100cc triple engine with the adapter. Since the 95 xp also houses a 717 then its a bolt in.

My buddy Scottie Mac, and his guys up in VA are well knowledged in this conversion and have done quite a few.

The driveshafts are modded and threaded etc. Ive read the threads on pwc, some good reads.

Wait, kawi adapter plate? Is someone gonna put a different motor in there? I must have missed something

Thats what I'm thinking..

Good idea, I will give it a try even if I dont use the xp800 hull on this project.

Yup, SM is the man!! I've been asking everyone a million questions on pwct. They all paved the way to make it a much simpler process for the rest of us. My goal is mid to low 60s on pump gas. Hardest part of the swap is probably going to be installing the 155mm pump
