Chances are I will just keep the seat as is, and repaint the seadoo logo on the back. That's assuming I can get it cleaned up nicely.

Finally picked up this seat today and got the ugly, worn out seat cover off of it. Underneath is an original seadoo hump seat cover in pretty good shape. The "seadoo" letters on the side are fading and it is dirty, but I think it'll clean up nicely. Now trying to decide if I should use it as is, paint it black with SEM vinyl paint, or get a jettrim seat cover. Suggestions?View attachment 34415

Dude! Do not touch that seat

I will personally drive to wherever you are and biotch slap you if you paint that seat, or do anything other than mint it out lol

These are getting harder and harder to find. Please don't ruin it. That one could easily look like mine or better

LOL, guess I'll be public enemy #1 on here if I do paint it. My problem now is that after cleaning, I could not remove two light orange stains that go all the way from the front of the seat to the back. I scrubbed hard but could not get them out. Other than that it cleaned up real nice. But if I can't get these stains out, it's either paint or re-cover. I would like to get them out and keep it as is. But it's so stubborn I'm not sure if it's a stain or discoloration. Most of the dirt and mold came out no problem. Looks like the orange might have bled off the old cover, not sure.

My ski has none of the original decals on it, so I'm not trying to keep it all original. More important to me is having a ski that looks nice and mint. I won't have a stained seat on it just because it's original. If I can get it close to mint I'll keep it as is because I think it looks good. But just not sure about these stains.

I'm the same way Hicktown, I'd get a Jettrim cover for it. I don't like the stock covers even if they are rare now.

Also guys check out this monster of a high rise Jettrim seat on one of Fischetti's old boats. Biggest seat I've ever seen for an X4.

I've definitely thought about Jettrim as an option, but they are pretty steep $$ wise. Also, I do love how the OEM cover fits. I have an aftermarket cover on my current seat and it's just not quite as nice as OEM fit and finish. So I would like to keep this original cover on if possible. I do like how a black seat looks on a yellow X4, which is how the idea of painting came up if I could not restore the original yellow color back to good condition.

Still not comparing apples to apples
The multi pattern design of the JetTrim doesn't really appeal to me. I prefer the smooth look and single color of the OEM. I'm sure the quality of it is excellent. But $160 for something I'm not even that crazy about doesn't seem like a great idea to me. It's still an option, just not my #1 option.

I have one on a ski I picked up that was painted black . It looks like chit. But to each his own
If that's the case, and the general concensus here is that it will look like crap, then I won't do it of course. I trust the opinions of those on this forum. But, I don't want to not do it out of respect of the original cover. If I don't do it, it's because it wouldn't look good.

If anyone has any tips on getting out that orange stain, please let me know. I've tried scrubbing hard with mr.clean magic erasers and stain removing spray, which did not get it out at all.

Did you try a magic eraser to get the stain out?

Edit: just saw ur post above, disregard. I've had good luck with leaving a paper towel wet with bleach on a white boat seat for like 20 min but I'm sure that will discolor the yellow.

Steep in general. $160+ shipped when I paid $40 for my old seat cover and it's held up great over 3 years of riding.

hick, first question, are you in lake city FL ?

the orange stains possibly could be mold spores, try a bathroom foaming cleaner, don't let it sit too long and make sure you rinse it off a couple of times. I've had similar issues in the past and after trying everything in my garage I finally tried mildew remover and it literally wiped right off.

if your in LC Florida and decide to replace it I can put you in touch with a guy in Sarasota that does some nice custom work that you'll be pleased with both price & product. He has done about 6 seats for me and i've always been thrilled.

Take it to a professional detailer. Not one of those mobile hacks, and not one with those tunnel washes (auto paint rapers). I bet they could get it out.

jesus, you guys really take your seat covers seriously. Y'all would hate me I would have already recovered it with a $60 blacktip and called it a day lol

I think even the basic touring seat from them starts at like $120 to fit the hump, 159 for the elite. No way I'd go blacktip over jettrim for the same price.

Yup, I hate seeing good stuff get molested. There's a 94xp near me with a hump painted black. Not only did the guy paint it he hacked the pan to clear the exhaust. Both stood offenses in my eyes.

Actually, I'm near Warsaw, IN, nick name lake city. Appreciate the tip, though. Unfortunately I've had no luck with these orange streaks. Tried soaking it in mildo remover, as well as a stain remover with oxy clean, along with scrubbing. I didn't even put a dent into that orange streak. Unfortunately it's not looking good for being able to get it out. Pretty sure it's something that bled off the old seat cover, as it follows the lines of it.

If I can't get these orange streaks out, then the seat can't be salvaged as is. I may try to paint it, and if that doesn't turn out well, I can still cover it with a jettrim. I don't see many other options. Would like to keep it original.
