I was looking closer by sticking my hand down in there with the camera to take some pics and saw its got a PJS throttle cam thing that looks pretty sweet and very adjustable (many positions to hook on cable) also noticed its got a R&D intake manifold as well that looks pretty legit. I thought they might be spigot mount but they are not the bolt with flanges to the manifold.

I think this guy bought the ski new and built a racer out of it and lost interest, time, or something happened that he didnt want to fix. It looks pretty well maintained other than the death by sun over the years. The wear ring looks new and the Solas impeller is mint, no dings at all.

Heres some more pics of the carbs. There are several Tempo line sections still in here which is kind of surprising given everything else done to it.

Any guess on what size they are? 44 or 46 probably? I need to get a caliper to measure them and the nozzles and will be good for other uses adding one to the toolbox if probably a good idea. They say NOVI XFLO or something xflo couldnt full make it out in the picture.

Get it started, listen to it and make sure it isnt a box of rocks, then yank the carbs and go thru them, and replace that garbage fuel line he used. Prob cutting 30% of potential fuel flow.

EDIT...motion pro is pretty expensive, but it looks to be way too small.

Maxiflo those have the D shaped booster

Thanks for the info

That mani has oil injection ports on it

I saw that and not sure why PO went premix on it other than I dont see any bracket for the oil injection cable on the carb side.

Ya I noticed how tiny the black lines where that he split off to each carb and also how he split the pulse line to two small lines for each carb with the same black motion pro line.

Im going to toss a battery in tomorrow and see if I can get it to turn over at all, if it does I will put a couple gallons of gas in it or run it off a gas can to try and see if it will start and run. I assume its not going to run as is but I will have to try and see.

That's priced insane but I've talked to so many people who wanted to build something like that.

Minnetonka4me,

I am interested in your 'box of rocks' comment. I have a thread on here about top end vs full rebuild of my 97 xp engine. Honestly, it sounds like a box of rocks when you hang your head over the open engine compartment. I was told these 787s with balance shafts do make a lot of mechanical noise like this but i have never had a chance to listen to another one with an open engine. What are your thoughts on this? should it be pretty quite or is lots of 'mechanical' noise a sure sign it is worn out for sure? Thanks

Well obviously there can be some random things that can sound like that, but yes, when bearings are coming apart or are really worn thats what it kind of sounds like. You can get it from piston slap too, but thats a bit different sound.

All the goodies and some nice port work. Let us know how it runs.

I understand the RXX is a rare sighting but are XP's and GSX's common down there?

Xps and gsx? Yes a lot... but mostly stock boats

He had a very beautiful 97 spx in the shop... less than 60 hours on it

The ski is running great, awesome holeshot and a top speed of almost 64 mph, 16.5 X 23 impeller, ported cases and stock cilinders, running low compression and pump gas

I think you had a 2 mile an hour currant and the wind at your back if your near 64mph on pump gas. How much are you revving? Be sure not to run over 1100 degrees on those egt temps.

I've said around 64 cause I didn't do the exact conversion... topped 101 km/h revving 7560 rpm... but the egt on cilinder 2 where getting too hi... so my mechanic made some carb adjustments and there we got 98 km/h at 7400 rpm

That sounds about right. I can't seem to get over 7300 rpm without going over 1100 degrees but I'm always trying different things looking for a breakthrough.

At 7400 we were around 1050f but here the courses are short, so i Don't stay at full throttle for too much time, oh the other modification I have is a 83mm bore... but the cilinder ports are stock

Thanks for your comments
