The Seadoo Engine Shop (SES) - Review

Right now I really don't care if it is fixed since I lost in my time and jet sking time more than what I lost on this deal. I will fix it or take it somewhere else. I just want the engine back. There is no excuse for a 9 month turn around. I can tell you if I don't see it soon might have to go the legal route which I don't want to but 9 months. Nothing take 9 months to rebuild.

I feel bad for you man, I do a lot of reading in the forum on my down time and I got to say, I have saw this same problem come up before with ses. better off to rebuild you own because the warranty is shit when its like this.

Every single person I have referred to SES has been a first time buyer, there's lots of them shall I bother them to come waste their time to participate in this train wreck of a thread?

It's the internet, people are full of BS when they get butthurt and rant and rave and there's far to many narcissistic people like you that have ZERO personal experience with a service provider that like to pile on to fan the flames when someone with a gripe airs it whether it's legit or not.

Go have him do an engine for you and report back, until then your opinion based on what you read elsewhere is right up there with a flock of parrots.

I probably shouldn't have wasted my time posting in this but wanted readers to know just what a bunch of bullshit it really is.

Good thing I didn't read this when it was posted. What an arse comment man! Really????? wow is all I will say

I've been on this forum a long time and I hear the same stories every single year concerning SES. The "lost" in shipping is getting comical. His turn around times can be a joke, that's fact. He lays on a ridiculous sales pitch if you call even asking about a rebuild, fact. If you have an issue and your not waterluvr it can be hard to get a response, fact. If this was an isolated incident I would not even comment but it's not.

Tom has the ability to build a nice engine but he really really needs to work in a lot of other aspects of running a business. It's a small community and word travels quickly.

I've run 4 engines through SES, and so far all have worked well. Even had to have one warrantied because the user hooked it to a hose, and with the house water on, never got the engine to start. (they never installed the CPS). so when I finally got it to run it vibrated to all hell. He fixed it under warranty.

Today he picked up the phone. He is telling me that UPS won't deliver the engine to my house/they said they tried 3 times. He is trying to get them to hold it at the UPS Hub. This might be true but it has been 9 months. I know UPS can deliver the engine since they delivered it twice to me already and he said my address is correct. So maybe I get this week and maybe not. I am just wondering if I lived in Florida would it of taken 9 months since you can ride longer there?

I am not doubting his work on the engines except who knows what happened with the first one. Lost compression in 5 minutes on the water ran fine on the hose but it wasn't under load. I am just not that happy with the warranty turn around times. No one can tell me 9 months is acceptable even though I couldn't use it where I live that should be my decision not SES.

I truly hope it is in your town at UPS, but I doubt it. UPS always leaves a note if you are not there to accept a delivery

I know there was no notes on my door. My wife works from home so I know someone is there 95% of the time. They could be trying the wrong house, I don't have the tracking number so I doubt UPS can help. I 'might just call them for the heck of it. If I see the UPS guy I will wave him down by my house and asking him 'do you have 18g rubber maid container you are trying to deliver to someone?'.

For UPS, sign up with them online. For any shipment headed to your address, you can get tracking information sent to you. It may not work for a shipment already in process, but it's a pretty handy thing to have.

He didn't offer it but I was driving and I couldn't write down the goofy number you get. He usually does tell you he needs to check on the shipping and call you back. I do have an online UPS account number and I get stuff delivered all the time and I never get a message from UPS. That would be cool if I did.

Quote from Kicker a few years ago on Sqrl's SES thread

"Had a good talk with Tom at SES today, he is one passionate guy about what he does. I mentioned to him that the only real negative I hear about the rebuild shops is the wait time. He believes that they can not speed things up any more for fear of loosing quality and him being able to stay hands on enough to make sure quality remains in tack.

As far as his return shipping, that is now done by a separate company which in turn sends it UPS for him and he does not monitor return shipping at all. His suggestion is to call or email them on the date the engine is suppose to be shipped and he will request his shipping company to give you the tracking number.

Tom has also said that starting in April he will have a guaranteed ship date or its free."

"That's exactly what Tom told me over the phone last week, that he uses a shipping broker to handle all of his packages going out. In my case, he did not have any tracking # whatsoever, which does not help either one of us out at all. I have talked to UPS myself and without having the tracking number I'm pretty much out of luck in locating my missing engine. Tom has been told the same thing when he called as well. So it sounds like keeping a record of tracking #'s is pretty important if anyone wants to see a missing engine again. I'm hoping for others sake, he will start doing that after what has happened to me.

I feel somewhat that this engine disappearance is partly on me, b/c I didn't stay on top of him about when my motor was coming and definately not knowing that I should request HIS tracking # incase it was lost. I contacted him on Oct 1st, asking about it, he said it's done, just waiting on the rotary valve shaft that was backordered, then it will be shipped. So I'm guessing it was shipped around the middle to latter part of October, so me not trying to be a nag to anyone, waiting paitently for it to come. The holidays were busy, as was I at work and it kinda skipped my mind, then once things slowed down I emailed him asking again. That's when he called telling me it was shipped a long time ago. That's when I learned he uses a shipping broker to send his engines for him and he didn't have the tracking #. Of course he's making good on the mistake by sending me another 720 for my ski, even though it's not my original. anyone know of any positives or negatives by not having my own motor back?!? As long as it runs good, has a warranty I should be ok. From what I've read on here and talking to Tom, everything is right on the money, but the shipping department has room for opportunity obviously. "

howie - the UPS notification is under the "UPS My Choice" there is a screen to set alerts - I have mine to text me for any shipments.

damn, I wish I knew that with UPS. Its like they hide that stuff from you. I am going to look for that right now. I was pretty sure he used a broker to save money on shipping the engines cost like $70 to ship from Elwood, IL to PA so if he can save a few dollars it must add all up. I would get a new company to do the shipping. If you are slow getting the engine back to start with and than the retarded shipping people just have the print a label and call for pick-up and get that right and adds weeks on to a delivery that is just crazy. I can tell you probably over the years shipping and receiving stuff from UPS I bet 1 package was lost. So how can 2 out 3 times Tom shipped engines to me shipping people lost the first one and than found it and than the morons have to have the wrong address this time I bet. I have shipped tires & engines and they have all made it. Plus I do actually drop the shit off myself maybe that is Tom's issue his shipper is a dee-tee-dee..

I can not comment on any personal experience with SES but it sounds to me like the big complaint with them is shipping.

To me it doesn't matter who the business is whether you ship it yourself or through a broker from the time you receive the item to the time the buyer receives it, it is your responsibility. You are providing a service and that should not stop until your client receives it. If your broker is the one having issues you are the one using them and paying them so you should be making sure they are actually shipping the item.

In this day and age there should be no reason that tracking numbers are not provided and even the broker can send them to the receiving party.

I am not saying any of SES's responses are true or not but if these shipping issues are happening it is his responsibility to make sure the client receives their item and if it is in fact the broker's fault it is his responsibility to correct the problem and guarantee the client receives their item in a reasonable time.

Well SES doesn't give out the tracking number to me the client but I know he has it since he said he was talking to a hub supervisor. You don't get anywhere with UPS without the tracking number. I can tell you for sure if SES gave out the tracking info all the issues would be much better with shipping

Sorry, but regardless of ANYTHING else with this drama, the fact is...SES is irresponsible and antiquated if they can't or won't give a tracking number. In this day and age, that is simply unacceptable.

Still waiting for SES to come on and defend themselves, if they can or will. I'll tell you one thing, I've already made up my mind about who NOT to ever call, lol!

If you take a look on pwc today, he was known for making numerous screen names to post good reviews or defend negative threads towards SES

SES gave me the tracking number on mine when I asked. I also had an issue with UPS as it was supposed to be delivered and than showed an exception. When I called UPS, they told me that due to the weight it required a two man lift and that they would not deliver it but would hold it. I made plans to go to UPS and pick it up myself but later that same evening the UPS driver showed up with it. I asked him about what I was told by UPS and he just shrugged his shoulders.

The struggle I have is that when you spoke with him you say he did not offer the tracking number AND you did not ask for it??? I would have been all over that demanding it in your situation.

Howie. When you get your shipment, go to the UPS website and type in the tracking number. It should give you a whole lot of information. Probably when the label was printed, the timeline, where it has been, delivery attempts and the whole 9 yards.

I know the engine is only 60 Lbs so 1 person can do it. Maybe that is the reason UPS won't deliver saying they need 2 people. Tom wasn't 100% sure if UPS sent back to him or not yet we was still waiting for the hub manager to respond to his request. He said they tried 3 times to deliver they didn't show up at my house 3 times or 1 time to my house. I will try tomorrow to call for a tracking number and see what I get. I would think shipping would be the easiest part of the whole job.

One thing for sure.... Once you get that engine, you can punch in that tracking number to verify what he is telling you. I have a hard time believing that he would make up that story though. Guess we will find out though once you get your motor back
