I am about to get a Long block and put everything back together from the very people who sponsor this forum. Thanks! I just had a question about the oil cooler.

A fair bit of metal went through my engine and I suspect it got to the oil cooler as well. Can they be flushed and reused? Or do I need to get a new one?

just a silly question.....
have you checked the engine year, 2006?
see 2007 update for long engines.

pete63 you have sent one of the most important links. Yet, I am getting part number 421000649 rebuild long block 1503BVIC.

According to the parts guy, the boats were a year behind (we all know this) and I have an 05 engine setup. That is stamped on the intake header.

So I am printing out your update and going home to verify the crank position sensor and some other stuff. From the pictures I have on the harddrive, it looks like the TOPS valves was not on my engine.

On the oil cooler, isn't it essentially a tube sitting in the oil pan that has water(antifreeze coolant) circulating through it? If yes I don't see why it needs cleaning. If oil is circulating through it under pressure it might be difficult to clean.

For our marine replacement engines we always install a new oil pickup tube and oil pump b/c it's required for warranty. If doing my own rebuild I check internal pump clearances and consider the failure mode (good oil pressure noted before cracked block from freezing probably doesn't need new oil pump.).

If the oil pump had bearing babit going through it I'd guess it's pretty scored inside and that destroys clearances. Anyway, consider your reman instructions warranty requirements.

xintersecty have you noticed I use GF for girlfriend? It is easier to type. Just got back from a day trip with the GF and Challenger. The GF is off on Wednesdays and Sundays, she is a mgr for Publix. On Wednesdays we have the Gulf to ourselves but can't say that about Sundays. Boat is running great..knock on wood.

In September of 2015, we are making day trips on the intra-coastal on the west coast of southern Pinellas County, Florida.

I noticed in one of your post you said you may buy a new Bimini. I bought one a few month ago and it is about a foot higher and a foot longer . It gives more shade (the sun is brutal here in Florida) and I can stand straight up under the Bimini. Since I'm 6 ft 1 in tall and wear a straw wide brim hat, I still can stand straight up under the Bimini. I'm sure I paid $159 for the Bimini and it came with aluminum poles, hold down straps and all hardware. To top it off, it came with a matching booth cover. Looks good and works just fine but I can't find the receipt. I'll check my Amazon account and see if I bought it from them.

Here it is and I did buy through Amazon with free shipping included. I still used the existing connecting hardware that Seadoo installed to hold their Bimini on the Challenger, so I didn't have to drill additional holes in the boat. Notice the Bimini is a foot longer and shades the driver and passenger seats much better. It is a great price and of good quality. Good luck.

PS: The Bimini adds drag but also a benefit is that it adds lift because it is shaped like a airplane wing and makes the Challenger lighter. Also, close the front middle windshield. This will direct more air up under the Bimini and create even more lift. Consequently, the Challenger goes a little faster. Go figure? Science is great if you know how to use it too your benefit.
