Sad News Blown Engine

I also bought a seadoo spark last year and I think I took it out like 25 weekends, even to balboa island never had an issue, knocking on wood again.

So I'm not sure, but i had a seadoo sportster 1995 that always had a problem but it was previous owner error (lack of maintenance, so forth, also that boat was 17 years old dang).

So knocking on wood, I might be looking to upgrade. Now xintersecty I would like to know too what it was..

Love my spark too. Going ridding tonight. Girlfriend get's the RXT and I will be blasting on the spark and jumping. Lack of maintenance by prior owners took my engine out. I am convinced of that. I too dying to find out what caused the motor freeze. I am getting closer. New pictures below and hopefully we can a new round of guessing!

Now for completely different! Just kidding just deeper pictures of engine porn. I will be listing questions along the way.

This part has cracked off my my engine exhaust header. Do you think I can weld on a new material and fix it? It's aluminum.

In getting the exhaust header off, two bolts broke. ARGGHHH again, more salt water corrosion. Any suggestions on removing the bolts?

The plastic button that went on the end cap of the drive shaft came apart also there was metal everywhere in the oil filters and screens. You can see the metal flakes I pulled out of the oil when I drained the sump.

Just more corrosion and more engine porn

Ok it's not the valves. None of the valves broke, I do plan on replacing them. This picture shows some rust on the valve. Maybe water got into the engine.

The oil pump is still good

Here is the current guesses:

Threw a rod / rcguy
Dropped Valve / pwgsx <- NOPE
Oil Pump / pete63, xintersecty <- NOPE

So far rcguy is in the running. Any other suggestions?

Well I hope that you are able to get it repaired soon. I know that I would be hurting really bad if I were in your situation. Good luck.

i'm with racerxxx.... destroyed bearings since you are finding all of that metal in there. also, in your first post it says there was a lot of oil in the bilge... did you find out where it came out? sorry if i missed it.

So far two for Trashed Thrust Bearing, DLB and racerxxx. I think you might be right guys. I should know more later this weekend. I have a guy lined up to help me with the block.

NO I have not found the source of the oil. I was able to pull about 2.5 quarts from the block. I don't know where it leaked (or forced) out the engine. My only guess right now is around the PTO and I don't know enough to say if that's possible. As you can tell the PTO housing it pretty messed up from the corrosion. So that will need to be stripped and painted.

Ouch, and a spun main bearing. Well, aluminum scrap doesn't bring much these days. I think you're hunting for good cases and a crank. With that spun main you have egged that saddle in the block...unfortunately. On the + side, that is some rad carnage!

I think the winner should get the blow parts as his award ;)

No thank you...I'll pass on the blown parts prize. So what to do now xintersecty?? I would go with new rebuilt engine. Fast and make sure you get a good engine warranty and guarantee for labor if anything goes afoul.

Dang just logged in ! Hey when putting back in with you nice lift, attach some tip over weight on lift.Might not need it but a cinder block is cheap insurance!

Darn right that's cheap insurance. Overall a few pounds at the base will help. It was on the edge.

OK here is the update, it's about money. I found a very good engine builder up north, Eastern Power Sports. By the time I get a new block, and have it built, I am pushing 6K. SBT is cheap but I have to go by a block from somebody before they will rebuild. There is an other shop that builds engines, they estimated about 5K.

So I am thinking the best option, is buy a remanufacture engine from a seadoo dealer. I am waiting from my local guys to see what price they can get me.

Not sure. I will let you know what I get and when. Right now all my capitol is tanking in the market due to recent changes in Asia and Europe. So the stock I will have to sell, I am forced to take a loss. So I am working out alternate financing. I wan to get my boat working in August.

Yeah, I had the impeller come forward and freeze the engine. It might have trashed the trust bearing. I think the rod shattered as there had been a previous hydrolock. When I changed the engine oil I found it to be milky. So there had been water in the oil.

I am about to get a Long block and put everything back together from the very people who sponsor this forum. Thanks! I just had a question about the oil cooler.

A fair bit of metal went through my engine and I suspect it got to the oil cooler as well. Can they be flushed and reused? Or do I need to get a new one?

This is crazy and hurts to look at the pics and I don't even really understand them all. Must be nice at least knowing what you are doing though. I will keep checking in on this.
