Was it wet inside when the cover came off? I would guess if there's salt in there, it will corrode the stator windings.
Yeah, I hope you can get that bottom cover sealed, I think it needs that extra cooling since the fuel doesn't go through the crankcase. They even specify gear lube for the 951DI counterbalance, instead of 30wt, because of the extra heat.

Oh look, the POST POLICE have arrived!No need to play dumb griz, I was simply driving home the importance of the water cooling and pointing out an example of differences. Of course I know richard's motor isn't an 951DI, I'm not totally dense and my reading comprehension is pretty good.
I work on a lot of boats too, so some of the words and explanations may sound foreign to a guy who has only read one or two seadoo manuals. For that I apologize in advance, perhaps this is why there are so few with high levels of experience here trying to help.
