I just purchased a 95 GTX 717 engine - The previous owner had blocked off the oil injection and said just to pre-mix the fuel. He stated he pre-mixes to the ratio of 40:1. Is this correct? I have noticed alot of smoking with this mixture and not alot of power.
I am using the the Quicksilver oil to mix with. 40:1 16oz per 5 gals
Any help would be appreciated

40:1 is the correct mix for a Seadoo Rotax. BUT... they will smoke. The injection system is variable. At idle, it runs closer to 70:1 to cut the smoke. I recommend putting the oil injection back on if the last owner gave you the parts.

One thing... the 720 engine needs an oil supply in the rotary valve gears. Is the oil tank still in the hull?

Thank you for your quick reply. The previous owner did not give me any parts to put back on. As for the oil tank, yes it is still there and I keep it about 1/4 full of the seadoo mineral type oil.

OK... then everything is good.

Once the engine warms up, the smoke will be less... but you need to go 40:1 on pre mix.
