Oil overload

Hey guys I am a noob and brand new to jet skis. I have a 1999 GTI. I was trying to test the spark plugs for spark by pulling them and cranking the engine. I cranked the engine for maybe less than a second and oil flew everywhere. I’m talking it reached the ceiling and then covered the ski completely. Massive mess. Why in the world would there be so much oil in the piston chamber that it shoots out everywhere after a single crank??? The guy who previously owned it said he ran it a few times last summer and it hasn’t been ran since. They were premixing and using oil injection because they didn’t know any better. Did I do something wrong or is there something wrong with the ski. Thanks.

The inner crank seals that separate the Rotary valve cavity from the rest of the crankshaft are leaking. Put some rags over and crank for 5 seconds at a time with a minute or 2 of rest in between till it clears out and then try starting it.

Okay thank you! I watched a YouTube video and they put a little shut off valve on the oil line so that when the ski was not running they could turn it off so it didn’t flood with oil. Good cheap solution.

Just remember to turn it back on EVERYTIME you run the ski!!! It would suck to burn up an engine because you forgot!!! I just went through the exact same thing on a 2000 gti
