Hello , finally got 97 challenger together new wear ring carbon seal kit and rebuilt starter. Boat sat in my garage for over a year before I had time to work on it. When I went to crank it . (Plugs out)
Oil came shooting out, a lot of oil. Will this happen if boats sits for long time or do I have another problem. See pics

The oil had leaked out of the rotary valve cavity into the outer ends of the crankcase through the inner oil seals, this is relatively common issue and the engine can be ran like this if the leak is not to severe. Once you get the engine going, let it sit for a day or 2 and then take the plugs out, ground the plug wires and roll it over, the leak may not be to bad. You can instal a shut off valve in the oil line going to the rv cavity. Turn the valve off when it’s being stored for extended periods of time, just make sure to open the valve before you take it out. The only way to fix those seals otherwise is to instal a new crankshaft.
