I just got a used seadoo and I need an engine for it. Basically I am trying to peice together a machine from a bunch of parts I have. I need an engine for my GTX and I know a guy on Kijiji that will sell me one out of an SPX. He claims that they are the same. How can I tell? I also want to make sure his engine is not stolen because it is not in the machine still and only sitting in his garage. Is there a VIN number on the engine that I can write down and have checked by police?? I just dont want to buy a stolen engine and then my son gets caught with it when he goes out riding. Thanks for help here guys. I am just trying to piece together a machine for my son so we can go out together, but I'm not very educated on these things.

I agree that I should be "leary" about buying from an unknown source, and that is why I am asking questions on here. I live in Canada, and I cannot afford to have this engine rebuilt, or buy a new engine. I can find used engines ALOT cheaper. I just want to make sure that any engine I buy, is not stolen. I dont mind running the risk of if the engine will run for long time, but I DONT want my son to be riding around on the jetski with stolen parts, and potentially breaking the law himself by doing so. Where do I look for Vin numbers on these things? and who do you get to check them, the local police?? I already had my jet ski hull checked by the plate that is on the back on the machine, but I'm assuming there must be other spots with numbers to check as well. I buy and sell cars all the time and I can ALSO check the engine themselves for numbers.
