New Thumb Flange Handlebar Grips

Took mine out for a quick ride yesterday. They felt so good and natural, that I sort of forgot that I had changed them. The real test will come later in the week when I go for a long cruise and out into the Gulf.

I forgot to post up a ride report, I've been out twice with the new grips.

they are perfect for me on the left side, very comfortable

Right side I feel like it would be perfect if the flange was just a tad lower, when i'm sitting and cruising it tends to force my wrist to bend a bit and after about 10 minutes its slightly uncomfortable. I don't think I can adjust it, but buy if I could spin it about 10 degrees down it would be awesome.

Biggest improvement was when standing up and either bouncing waves or just cruising, it was really nice to be able to rest the heel of my hand on the flange vs usually putting weight on the palm.

Overall i'll give it a 9 since i'm not sure if i'm doing a 40 minute cruise down the river sitting down if I want that angle on my wrist.

That sounds really good, thanks. We still have 3 or 4 weeks. Frost warnings tonight in Atlanta, but the water is up to 65 degrees.

Have you looked inside the grips to see if you have any room to modify the boss? I have my old ones, I will look inside. Don't think hacking on the handlebar itself sounds too exciting. But a 9 rating - that does sound exciting.

Thanks, Looking for the feedback on the longer cruise. Will this be a couple hours?

I rode mine for four hours about a week ago. From large ocean jumping waves to flat high speed in the bay runs. VERY happy with them. Worth every penny.

hahahahah I have the same issue at BestBuy... I'm just gonna go look at a new tv and see how they look....
One thing I am VERY afraid of is, walking in to buy two sets and buying two new skis instead.

Last time I went into a dealer I was headed there to get some oil. $22,000 later I got my oil and two new skis. Sold the old ones on eBay,,,

Man, do I like these new grips!!!! I don't even think about hand fatigue. Spent almost two hours out the other day: River, bay and gulf. Never got tired once. The gulf was super calm after days of a north wind.

Yesterday, I tried to go back out in the gulf. Wind was whipping about 15 mph from the SSE. Seas were reportedly running 3-5 feet. I only made it about 1/2 mile from the pass before I decided to turn back. But the grips performed flawlessly!!! :)

no I haven't looked to see if there is a workaround, (although I did look at a buddies ski that had the X steering drop mod to lower the bars) and I plan on doing several mods on my ski in the next 5-7 days, changing the ring in the nozzle, switching to 2012 X sponsons, and a steering control mod, so maybe while we're taking apart half of the external stuff I'll pop off the right side and see if there is a way to tilt the flange down, I only need about 5 degrees and I think it will be perfect. The guy that is helping me with the mods can pretty much find a work around for anything so if it can be done, he will know in about 30 seconds.

When standing or squatting during the ride the flange was friggen great, so much more comfortable to rest about 2-3 inches of your hand on the flange instead of all the pressure being focused on the 1/2 inch spot right in the middle of your palm.

Not in the slightest. And I have ridden MANY hours with them. Two Saturday's ago I was out for 7 hours.

I love the grips, but my hand goes to sleep after a while. Maybe I need to change the position of the handlebars??

Edit: It is my throttle hand only.

With long cruises I use various fingers on the throttle as my fingers can feel it. I'll use the pointing and middle finger then switch to middle forth finger and drop my pointing finger to the grip.

I ride every week for at least 2 hrs. They are SO much better than the round one's I have no problem with my hands falling asleep.

On the old grips, you had to roll your wrist and hook your thumb to keep your finger on the throttle. Now, you can actually rest the meat of your thumb on the flange and still keep your finger on the throttle.

My kids rode it around today and even they commented on how much better they were.

As far as position goes, the grips are indexed to the actual handlebars, so I am not sure how you could adjust them.

My handle bars are adjustable (tilt wheel steering) I figured I would Change the position and see if that helped.

Coastie good info on changing up which finger is on the throttle. I will give that a try.

On longer cruises, I also change up the fingers like Coastiejoe said. I only use the index and the middle, or both together. Too much "Arthur-itis" to use the others. I also have Cruise control, and when we hold a steady speed for awhile, that works well since you can use your entire hand to hold the throttle down.
