DavesNotHereMan Spimothy Leary hfgreg Straight swap. No other parts than the grips re needed. You my want to get a few in stock. Super easy to change and they are considerably more comfortable...

Here are the pics.

I used the new 2016 grips and the ORIGINAL retaining bolts and plugging caps. You need nothing but the grips themselves.

On the RXT-X, which have the regular round grips and are not tapered on the inner-ends, there is a TINY gap. Can only be seen from the seat like if you were sitting driving. I put one on each ski and then sat on the seat. I can tell for sure there will be MUCH less general fatigue for cruising and what not. I could see where a high speed racer may want to keep a smaller rounder grip as they would wrap their hand all the way around it. But for general use, this is a very cheap and worthwhile upgrade.

Here is the GTX. (Mine is a 2010).
This grip looks light in color and faded, but it is not. The light turned off in the garage and this is the result of the flash,, LOL

Here is the gap. So small it is not worth screwing with. Though the larger triangular inner-edge does not fit like the smaller round grips, they still look like they belong there. So I am not changing anything, just putting them on ad using them.

That is fabulous! hfgreg, I am ready to order. Do I need to wait, or just go ahead?

Just a thought if that gap bugs you... How about an O ring that fits over the handlebar and gets squished when you crank down on that 10mm bolt.

Cranking on the bolt will not help as the grip bottoms out on the outside edge. But an O-ring could help camouflage it a bit for the mere fact that there is room for it. You could also use black RTV. But it is so small, I'm doing nothing about it at this time. Maybe I'll change my mind in the sun light.

Spim,,, got home to late to ship the grips. They will go out today..
DavesNotHereMan f you do want to fill the gap on the non-tapered grip skis, you could shave about 1/8th of an inch off the end of the grip bar. This would allow the grip to move in toward the center of the ski...

I'm really looking at the 2011, which has exactly the same grips as your 2010, so they go on now. This is also my main cruising ski.

The flat ended grips are on my 2001 GTX RFI, which is much more blast around machine. It also has a thumb throttle, so I don't know how that will work, yet.

Good idea on the shave. If it's only 1/8 inch, a little run on a sanding belt should get that pretty square.

If anyone wants to write up a quick how to on this with pictures we will publish it on the Sea-Doo Forum blog.

I have just ordered these grips on pwcmuscle. I will also take some photos and instructions when they come in and I get them installed. That will give us two ( with Coastiejoe) and maybe three (@Spimothy Leary).

hfgreg Here is a write up. Feel free to edit, remove or rearrange as you feel fit..

Upgrading to the 2016 Sea Doo Hand Grips.

You will need ONLY the grips, no addition new parts are required.
Left Grip: 277001958
Right Grip: 277001946

Using a small flat-head screwdriver pry out the end-cap of the grip.

Using a 10mm socket, remove the retaining bolt.
27.jpg

Grab the grip and pull it straight off the handle bar. You will now see there is a notch in the bar. This notch is what keeps the grip(s) from rotating once installed.
28.jpg

Install the new grip by simply sliding it onto the bar and lining up the notch to the inside of the grip. Using your hand, slap the grip toward the center of the ski to get it to seat well.

Reinstall the retaining bolt and end-cap.

Coupla questions: when I removed one of my grips, there was something that looked like glue residue. Is this common?

When reinstalling the grips, can a little soapy water help, or will that cause other problems?

Mine MAY have something like a small amount of RTV. But it was so small I am sure it is applied to just to make sure the grips don't come off as they are being built. I am guessing the bolts are installed much later than the actual grips. I did not need any lubricant to install them. They slid right on.

Update:
My new grips came in today from pwcmuscle.com!

Car's in the shop, I won't be able to install them until this weekend.

I will take photos on my 2011 GTI LTD, as well, but I suspect it will be the same process as CoastieJoe's 2010.

Nice! Looking forward to seeing the install process!-

I rode the 300 at the demo at world finals...and IMO the Grips were the biggest/best thing I noticed. Excellent for aggressive riding. I might retrofit them on one of my X-4s.

Though I haven't ridden with them on, I felt they were great doing a test fit just sitting on them in my garage. LOL

mine arrived and are sitting on the glovebox waiting for me to get off the couch.

Thanks CJ for shipping them out so quick, I think i'll really enjoy these.

No problem at all. We could have gotten them a bit cheaper through SDF. But I wanted a pair in my hands so I could try the fit in the older skis in hopes to help others.

< surprised to hear tonka's comments on the grips, since my initial thought was that for aggressive riding this might not be the best choice for some. I'm more of a cruiser anyway so my concerns were general and not specific to me. But this is good to hear.

Re: Tonka's comments. I haven't ridden with mine yet either, but just holding one in my hand, not even installed, the thumb can wrap around the new flange in a much more natural position. I can see how you can generate a lot more leverage with your thumb and the 'meat' of your hand than I was ever able to do with a typical round grip.

I also cruise a lot and think the comfort will really show up there, but I can see how it would help in more aggressive conditions, too.
