New Thumb Flange Handlebar Grips

I went to the Atlanta Boat Show last week and saw a handlebar grip on the 2016 models that, I think, are new.

Instead of the normal cylindrical shape, they have a flange that protrudes where you can rest the "meat" of your thumb. They look funny, but we're extremely comfortable, especially,I suspect, for cruising.

Anyone know about these and can they be retrofitted to earlier models?

Those look great, I think if you can find just the rubber grip you would be fine, to the the thumb part is just extruded rubber and isn't backed by the metal bar(that would be very expensive to create and install) so find the bar slide your old ones off and the new ones on... although on an older model like the ones I have the thumb is the accelerator and not the index finger, so this wouldn't work for me and the control for speed on the new ones are electronic not on a cable so that creates a whole new issue
In my eyes I would personally convert over and have to go all throughout the electrical diagrams as I am getting really good at making electrical components work on devices they where not intended too. This is all experimental as I would never do it on my thumb models as its just too expensive

Yea, I understand. These probably would not work on my 01 GTX RFI (thumb throttle), but I am thinking about my '11 GTI LTD 155.

I would be concerned that the section of handlebar that these fit on is not the same as 2011.

there are a few rxt's that have hit the market, maybe I can get one of them to measure the grip length, to give an idea if it will cross fit (my suspicion is yes). Of course the elephant in the room is the dealer cost, which might be Ridonkulous and throw the whole idea out the window. I have seen nothing similar to this style on the aftermarket but then again I haven't really been looking.

Somebody had them listed on FB. But I believe it was from the dealer. Nick will know. Minnetonka4me.

let me know about the start button, I tried the one for my 97 gti and it was great and then the one for my 05 rxt and had no luck as it was far to hard to push, so I'm just running it open with the inner button, but finding a good replacement would be great.

You can look the part number up online. SeadooWarehouse.com is a sponsor of this forum and you can look up your parts and order them there. There is a new mobile site, which does not have all the same things that the full website has, so they may be in transition. Use the full web site. Mine happens to be #277001802, I don't know how long they have been using that part. It goes by Knob Cover or Switch Cover.

I looked up the 2016 RXT and GTX and they are the same part numbers

RH Grip is 277001946
LH Grip is 277001958
They cost $14.99

Thx, Coastiejoe.

Do you think they will fit previous models? And would the GTX fit my 11 GTI LTD?

It looks like there is a cap which covers a screw that holds the grip in place on my GTI LTD. If I am looking at the parts list correctly, it looks like there is an insert that fits between the grip and the actual handlebars. If that is true, then this is all about the insert. If not, then it is the grip.

I haven't taken mine apart and have never replaced a grip, so I do not know where to begin. At $30, though, this may be worth the experiment.

The parts diagram does show additional parts. If they are as cheap as he grips are, I think I will order a set and see if it will work. I own a 2010 and 2009. So maybe not... But I thin it is worth a try.

Here is the parts list that is required for the 2016 Grips. That said, all of these parts may not be need to make the swap, this is just what is listed..
Item# Part Number Description
10 234062600 Flat Washer M6, Stainless $0.62
12 250000002 Hex. Screw M6 X 30, Scotch Grip $0.72 .
15 277000203 Cap, Black $6.99
37 277001863 Insert Grip Handle $6.99
43 277001958 Handle Grip LH $14.99
43 277001946 Handle Grip RH $14.99

You will need two of everything EXCEPT the grips, one left and one right...

I think so too. A trip to the dealer sounds like the next step. Maybe we can find out about the "Insert Grip Handle". I won't be able to check for a few days, so I will post my findings when I get them.

When did Seadoo move to a trigger style throttle (Like Yamaha). Sorry I'm on an old 2002 GTX and have never been a fan of their thumb throttle
