I found a couple old threads about this, but saw no definitive process on how to do it.

I really like the new style ones with the color inserts showing, but want to know how or if it will work before buying them.

They work, you just need a spacer to fill the gap where the grip meets the throttle housing and start/stop housing. I have a nice pair of black and tan ones, still in the wrap. I'd probably take an ice cold black and tan on trade. That would be a Guinness/Bass black and tan.

I tried this same setup, but could not keep the grip from spinning on the handlebar. How did you fix that?

Jetskigoodies has it on here a few places. Look in his resto thread. I never opened my grips but they come with the hardware and you need to drive an insert into the bar end and notch the end iirc. Plus I have a set off bars with that set up already

Thanks Dan, i appreciate that, i'm actually looking for black and red though. I owe you quite a few beers! so send me your info and I'll make sure to get that Black and tan to you. Whats the best way to fill the gap then? I saw someone said cut the bars but don't really want to do that.

To fill the gap, home depot has a black hose that is the same inner and outer diameter. Buy that and cut it down. I can not remember what department I got it in. Most likely plumbing. It was about a foot long. Then to stop the spinning, take electrical tape and wrap the bars one time the length of the grips. Put your grips on and try to turn them. If they spin add one more layer. 1 usually does it though.
