My old xp800 has died. Grabbed a piston and water in the jug from a crack in the jacket.

My mechanic wants to rebuild the current engine.

I am leaning towards replacing it with a rebuild.

The only company I am familiar with is SBT. I personally Had bad luck with one of their rebuilds, but I have seen lots of their engines run reliably.

My question is what other options are there?

Is it possible to buy a factory new engine? Anyone else selling rebuilds?

Anyone great aftermarket parts or suppliers to build a bullet proof engine from?

Number 1 important factor is reliability and the ability to run on pump gas.

89 if possible so i can fill up on the water, 93 if absolutely necessary.

What aRe my options? Any advice at all?

I really Appreciate the help.

Nothing wrong with STB for a regular rebuild. Pay the few extra $$$ and get a 2 year waranty. If it doesn't fail after the first season... chances are, it will last as long as the OE engine did.

Yes... you can get a BRP rebuild... but they are very expensive. I'm sure at one time, a dealer could get a "NEW" long block... but probably not any more since they don't make any of the 2-strokes.

If you want to build a Bomb proof engine... you can buy all high end parts (like a hot rods crank) and build your own engine... but good parts are only half of the story. It takes a good builder too. The problem is... if you get someone like me to build you an engine... you won't like my price tag.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck

I like the sound of bullet proof. While we are doing it I'll change all the fuel lines. Anything else I should look to do?

Someone suggested a group k sleeper. I need reliability and the ability torun pump gas so I am not sure.

The extra years warranty is pricey, but is probably a good idea.

Thanks for the help.

Group K builds very good engines. You could send them your old one, and have them build you whatever you want.

Is full bore a company?

I am torn between going stock rebuild vs having an engine purpose built.

Doc Honda, you said I wouldn't like the price of your rebuild, care to give me an idea?

For maximum reliability, is there a better choice than the SBT motor?
