Hey all, tomorrow I'm going to go pick up my new 2014 GTI 130. I've never owned a PWC before. I've been reading the posts about breaking in for 10 hours, or what the manual says. I've seen you should do different RPM ranges and not do WOT for very long if at all for the first 10 hours. My question is, for the first 10 hours then do you not have any fun on it??? I've seen people say they only stay in one RPM range for 15-30 seconds. How do you get 10 hours at different RPM's and enjoy the ride if you are checking to change RPM's every 15-30's. So can you not do any spins and pop outs (I'm not sure what they are called when you have the tail end in and accelerate). Also, would tube pulling in the first 10 hours be a no go. I understand the need for the break in period, but I know I will use this kind of limited compared to most of the users on here I'm sure. I'm thinking maybe 10-20 hours a year. I will be bringing it on a family vacation pretty quickly after purchase, so I just want to know how much I can do with passengers and kids.

Thanks
PJ

Well, seems no one wants to answer...so I'll give it a shot.

You should be able to have plenty of fun on your new ride. Varying the throttle ain't hard...you can do that easy enough on cruises...as for wave wake jumping...same thing. Don't be scared to open it up...just don't leave it pinned for long. 10hrs goes by pretty fast.

I'd do an oil change after that break-in.

As for towing tube...eh..get up on plane quick then again...vary the throttle.

Plenty of fun to be had NOT at full throttle. I would not tube as it generally requires an initial thrust of full throttle and then you will have a substantial load on the engine. To tube you will have three people and the load of what you aren pulling.

An occasional high speed run is fun, but not prolonged. Depending on where you are will depend on how easy it is to out 10 hrs on it.

Thanks Guys! I don't know if people are worried about what they say. Like I said, I will read the manual and ask the dealer. I just had the impression of going slow for 10 hours seemed a little boring. But makes sense of what you guys say. I want to make sure I do everything right since it is a big purchase!

On the flip side,,, going to slow is equally as bad. You need a range of RPMs. That is what allows for the metal parts to "mate".

I guess it depends on personal preference. some will say to ride it as you would and not to worry too much (within reason) on wide open throttle. Last year i got a 2014 gti 155 ltd and for the first 5 hours i took the rpm ranges (low, mid, high) and tried to ride them and about 30-45 seconds each (when i remember) but certainly lived in the middle of the rpm range/cruising. Occasionally gave it 10-15 seconds of WOT. after that i was riding more aggressive and for longer times in each range until i got close to 10 hrs then i was riding like i stole it.
definitely be gentle at first like with anything else dont abuse it but also dont be afraid to try and push it for abit. like coastiejoe said too slow is bad and it does need to have some work in the high rpms to break in.

Why not break it in the correct way and not worry about engine problems? Its not like you will be idling around the lake for 10 hours. Just vary engine speed and enjoy. Then after 10 hours you can really enjoy it!! Have fun be safe.
