This thread is awesome. I'm learning a lot!! I got a new SS wear ring from Outlaw (I live in Canada, 1 hour from their shop) and it made a world of difference.

Mike, I'm really glad that somebody can learn from all of my crazy questions! The guys here are awesome to help out! We're all very lucky Dr Honda is here!!!!

We went out last night for a evening ride. Just cruised (5-10mph) around for 30-45 mins or so enjoying the cooler evening. Went to WOT to get back to the dock. I would get an occasional hick-up or stumble and only at WOT.....Ideas?

LOL! Actually.....just one. I usually keep sweat pants & jackets onboard but had taken them out to wash and forgot to put the back. The sun went down over the trees and man it got cold! Makes me sad.
We are planning to pull the injectors out this fall and have them cleaned over the winter. So with my stumble/hick-up at WOT and slightly low rpm (5100-5200) at WOT I don't know what else to do. I have not pulled the plugs today to see what they look like.

Certainly plugs would be good to look at... I would also check the gas filter as well.
I'm having a blonde moment I guess but.... Where is the fuel filter? I started to reply that I had already done that but it was the fuel separator filter that I replaced. So where in the heck is the plain 'ol fuel filter?

Nope, same unit... It does both! But just maybe it has filtered out some water? Unlikely, but it is worth looking at it. When you ate it off, carefully empty its contents into a glass jar and you will see if there is any water in it... If not then it's something else... It's an easy check.

We had a similar issue season before last. Two strokes will hiccup just enough at high RPM to notice a bad plug. I used to notice this on Waverunners.

With 2-stroke sleds and waverunners it was expected to change the plugs annually after the winterization/summarization was worked out of the system. On the boat, I had not gotten into the habid. But I should at least every other season I suppose.

I pulled the plugs to find that the plugs may have been the factory originals. Tony and I had a giggle about it here as the base of the plugs were painted black (factory plugs) I replaced them with a fresh set, gapped properly of course and the slight miss at speed went away. Plugs are an easy check and not horribly expensive to replace.

Good luck!

Is there an inline filter, in the pick up?

I replaced the plugs in June but with the slightly low RPMs there's still an issue somewhere. I'll be pulling the plugs this evening.

Not that I'm aware of, but I do have the older 210HP carb'ed engine... They might have changed that in newer models? The Dr would know for sure.

But a hiccup sounds more like a single spark plug just starting to go bad as the last guy mentioned!

Hmmm, the plugs that I bought are the type that only have a center electrode and thus there is no way to adjust the gap? If memory serves me correctly I use NGK BUZ8H plugs. But that might be different then the ones used in a 240HP EFI?

Mercury Shop Manual says: NGK BPZ8HS-10 with a .040in (1.0mm) gap.
This is for the 240efi, which I think she has in her profile.

Those others are the ones my dad uses in his Merc 75hp outboard. It blew me away not seeing a normal electrode on the end.

CRAP! Now what? These are in order far left was top on left side.

Shit, I would say #5 was not firing like the others? Not sure if it's not getting gas or not firing... It is clearly different! Worth changing that one for sure! If that doesn't solve the problem, then check for spark with an inline spark tester?

Yep, I have a spare set of 3 coils that I keep on hand just in case... I have one whole bank of coils and the casing that holds them... It actually helps to figure out what bolts you have to remove to get at just one coil!

It's on order. I hope this solves my low rpm prob and the hick-up. Dr Honda has been asking me about compression every time I mention my low rpm. I guess this would be the same symptom. Fingers crossed.

Its tough to hear those hiccups sometimes with 6 cylinders popping. But pulling those plugs told the tale pretty quick. Wow.

I hope that fixes you up. Good luck.

Wow! Now I feel like an idiot! Dr Honda has been asking me about a dead cylinder. I Should have known! Now with my new wear ring and running on all 6 cylinders it's AWESOME! Pulling a tube was completely different. Everything was different.

I forgot to ask this in my last post...... I may want to replace my pump up front in the pool. Has anyone done that? Do you remove the sealant (caulk) on the side where the wires run through the hull?
The pump is fine it just has a broken tab and is wanting to separate from the bottom part. I put a shim on top of it for the moment and it works fine again. I am ordering a new gate valve because it's letting a small amount of water to pass through and it ends up emptying the pool. Fresh water is a commodity ya know!
