HI all,

Just bought some hydro turf for the 99 GTX ltd. The old Seadoo skids are slowly approaching their use by date.

Is it a simple case of rip off the pop riveted Seadoo grips, clean and prep the ski and stick the hydro turf on?
 
yep. Clean the ski... then clean each section with acetone, or lacquer thinner to make sure there isn't any wax on the hull.
 
Some guys fill the rivet holes, so in case your turf ever starts to lift, it won't leak into the hull.

I will be applying new turf to my boat this week. This time I bought it with the 3M adhesive already on the back. I have applied surfboard traction for years and it is pretty much the same thing. But with the turf on my XP, I had to apply contact cement and there were a couple places where you can see some excess glue, and when contact cement is adhered, you are done, no corrections.

With the 3M, there is a little more forgiveness. Plus, since it has the wax-paper backing on it, it will not stick until it is peeled, so you can peel just a little 1/2" corner an lay the waxed part down to the boat til it is exactly where you want it, then press down that sticky corner. Then double check that it is still where you want it and start to peel back another couple inches at a time and sorta roll it out until it is all layed. It should remain straight and where you intend for it to be unless you stretch it instead of roll it while laying it.

Gotta get my old stuff off today or tomorrow and start to clean off the old adhesive. THAT is the fun part...:ack:

Hey just out of interest what $$$ would you guys in the USA get charged for a top end rebuild?
The reason I ask is because I have comp. differences of 147 and 130 psi in the GTX LTD and am looking to get a rebuild in a season or two. ( we only use it for leisure and to tow the kids on a tube) and I've been getting quotes of like $2000 to $4500 Australian!!!!!! Which is like $1500 to $3600 US!!

These quotes are from Seadoo Dealers in Melbourne. I want to use them only because I assume they'll have the best knowledge on the rebuild.

I know you guys live overseas but a rough price guide might help, so I can pick the right Seadoo dealer who's gonna do the job at a reasonable cost, bear in mind I'll add the differences for your dollar compared to ours.

P.s thanks to all you guys in the US for your help on this forum. I really appreciate the prompt quick responses...some of the advice has been invaluable!! It has given me a greater understanding of PWC's cheers!!
 
For that money!!!

For $800, I would swap the motor out for an SBT rebuilt and have my 150 psi back...

Ok, ok ...I get the point ..LOL!!

Theres like 250 million of you in the US so competitions at a pemium. But in Australia we have 25 million people, who live in a country at the a** end of the world...so at every opportunity businesses try to rip you off. May as well be Canadian huh??LOL.:)

I will keep looking around and see if my luck changes. But you're both right I felt that I was getting ripped off, so once again your advice has been invaluable.

The ski runs ok so I'll ride it till it stops then shop around!

P.S. I could almost pay for one of you guys to come over, pay you to do the rebuild and fly you back for the money I've been quoted!!! And still be in front!!! LOL!!

I buy car parts for a couple of guys in sweden and norway. Actually, they buy the parts on ebay or through the internet and have them shipped to me, I put them in a single box and ship them over. They sometimes get hit for customs, sometimes they don't depending on how big or heavy the box is and how much attention it draws.

You may want to look into buying an SBT rebuilt motor, and see what shipping is. They may ship straight to you, or you may need to go through a "proxy" like myself.

Just a suggestion. Even this way, it may cost you $1600 total for motor and shipping, and now you have a fresh motor still for less than your quotes for repairing what you have.
