Where do you guys live and go riding? I also have an 09 SeaDoo RXP-X and haven't taken it out in awhile!

I live in Pembroke Pines, Ocod, just South of me. So far we tow down to Miami area. But there are more local areas as well, even a fresh water area...

Ahhhh gotcha... I would be down to go outside the box and ride in a different area!

For this month?

My schedule is usually Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday but have Thursday afternoon and usually
every other Friday to Friday afternoons or Sunday to go.

For most of this month. Normally my schedule changes on or around the 20th of each month. Let me know if a Tues/Weds opens up. I want to go back up and do the Kisseme River run again. Had a great day..

Will do.

It is likely NOT your issue, but you should pull the pump to make sure it is not seized. If you pull the pump and the engine does not crank, then I am with the others in that you have an internal issue.

I had a stick and bad decision ruin my pump. It locked the engine from even starting. So I would check that first. You will need to pull the pump. If it's not corroded, you can pull the pump in about 20 mins, and then you can get it down to about 5 mins.

Hope you pinched off the water line before towing as well......

Hey... Definitely didn't... A novice wouldn't know such a thing.... This has to be just a precaution and it wouldn't most of the time during towing or I would think SeaDoo woulda been a valve from the factory on that hose

It is MUCH more than a precaustion.. If it is towed over 15 MPH the water will fill the exhaust and then fill the engine through the valves. And to expand a bit, when a 4-tec ski is shut off, the engine stops at such a point where every valve is closed. So, no water will actually get into the cylinders until you attempt to turn it over after being towed.

Ahhhh... Ok gotcha, well Tow Boat US did it for me and it was at about 10mph... But the boat is going to the mechanic tomorrow... So I'll take this up with him also... Hopefully nothing is too serious and all is well

But, everything happens for a reason... So I'm not going to be too upset

Okay guys... I appreciate all the help... Just want to keep you posted in the repair work for the engine of my boat! Obviously the motor has to be pulled! The thing is 9 years old... So I'm not really that pissed.

No small investment... I do absolutely as much research as possible before dropping thousands of dollars into anything... Which I think in this case the most important is to make sure all replacement parts are warrantied and also the WORK is warrantied! I don't care how good a mechanic is, if he doesn't guarantee his work then that means he doesn't have capital behind him and only the best business are ran with good capital behind them ... IE a good Jetski repair shop has 250,000 in the bank compared to 15,000. Red flags to me when mechanics / shops mention anything that they can't afford this or that.

So I've called and talked to multiple places about it... It's absolutely crazy how much the quotes range... Guys your dealing with a business man... You not going to replace my motor in my boat and net profit 3k off of me... No way! 20-30 hours of labor okay well... Even if you pay your guy $40 and he and it costs you $20 to keep the lights on then that's $1800 in labor at 30 hrs... So why the hell do I get quoted $4500-$5500 in labor? You think your gonna profit 2500-3500 in labor?

Btw I own multiples business in three different traits and some people are just the absolute worst business people... I go straight to owners and refuse to talk to managers and shop employees because it just gets you no where... I know that an owner really truly cares about their business and you never know what happened to an employee a previous shift or how long they've been with the company (ie tech got scolded out for coming in late or tech been working for 3-6 months, so he doesn't put best effort in jobs that day) ... This is why it's so important in so many factors to get work guaranteed...

So the one to give me the best rate and to guarantee all work is Miami Jet Ski Shop... They told me if I wanted to get a SBT rebuilt motor to save money on parts they install and guarantee the install... So if that motors blows 5 hours later it'll be covered under SBT warranty and the JS of Miami will replace the motor for no cost under their warranty... Now I'm not sure what you guys think, but I would drive 3 hours one way to spend 5k and fix my boat when I know that it's worry free... That no matter if it blows again then you don't have to worry about forking tons of money again for labor... Every business your gonna have losses but for those guys forking out 20-30 hours of labor ($1200) to a tech for one out of every 10 sbt engines isn't a bad business plan... (Anyone that says SBT numbers are worse than that I wouldn't believe it because it's seems like their business is doing very well) If I'm happy when all said and done I'll definitely be referring as much palm beach clientele as possible to them.

sorry to hear, does any one know what happen to actual engine?

Hey Hey... So far the one tech told me that the valve went... Interesting to me, guess it's common in the 215... The guy I bought it off of was the original owner and he only put 55 hrs on it... So that's only 6.5 hrs a year... Oh and the guy live on the west coast of Florida... I think it's a typical case of me getting stuck with a boat that wasn't used enough... You use a SeaDoo boat a lot and what do you do after? You flush it and maintain it spray lubricate all over the motor and make sure it's staying rust free... You use it 6 hrs a year and it's just not enough... I'm more of the use it once or twice a week guy... That'll definitely bring out the imperfections if an older boat wasn't maintained properly

I would get that in writing.
If motor fails then yes you are covered for replacement by SBT not the labor to remove and replace it.
Thats's usually the case at most shops.

the earlier engines had hollow, i heard sodium filled valves! i'm not sure what year seadoo changed the valve design, but it maybe worth changing in the near future after hearing your episode.

I'll know more next week... The engine is being removed either Monday or Tuesday and I'll pictures of all of the damage

The 06 had two piece (welded)valves, then recalled for solid one piece valves. The valve ends were breaking the weld off. I was just told this today.Wonder which valves I have.Im considering pulling my head and put new valves in.Maybe the candoo will tell me it was in for recall valve replacement .Heck if I know.
I was in SBT Tuesday .I think a guy was paying cash for a new motor.Counted out a big stack of c-notes!

While your pump is out it should have the reverse bracket bolts greased.Trust me and don't ask how I know.lol

If your valves are stamped with the number 72, they are the old style hollow core. If stamped with number 75, they are the new solid core style.

Thanks ,Great info! I just seen a new valve set for $500. Man it'd be great to know what I have.I don't even know the hours on this boat.haha guess I'll have to be like Mike (OP) and just get'r done!

(Ok took one for the team cut into a # 72523 T Exaust valve and its solid see picture, if your valves are 72524 T K , those are the ones you need to be worried about as they are not solid, )
I found that info on another site.Mike it'd be great to know what valves you had.I tried reading mine in the dark will try in day light .Its tight but with a dental mirror I might see better tomorrow with someone holding light. Also read there's a known oil sensor that goes bad, puts boat in limp mode or wouldn't start. Not starting might have been neutral switch .The oil sensor is by the oil filter,$35? ,10 minute fix.I guess there's not really a lot of issues with this boat.I've seen 2014 bmw bikes with a ton of issues. So a 10 year old boat that should have been fixed, recalled back then .And such few other issues that are known,I really think it not that bad.
