Forum Members Unite! Orlando Area December Ride?

Well I agree with all of you and will call the management today.

keep us posted, its certainly not a bad idea but no reason to assume we're going to overwhelm them, not this year.

I attended the ski fest down in estero 4 years in a row before it moved north, and it gradually worked its way up to 50 ski's showing up but this is not an "event".

Unless i'm wrong, nobody is pushing this among several forums or with the larger ski groups like the junkies or soflariders. Even when I inquired about orlando info with my "groups" I didn't extend the invitation or even put a date/location out there, my personal goal wasn't to try and get 40 people to show up, I personally was just hoping we could get a dozen ski's, small enough that we'd have a chance to actually put a face to the name, and get to know each other on a personal level. I've attended several large rides and it gets complicated quickly (and attracts the water cops as well).

I'm just really looking forward to meeting the forum members, have a good time, and use this as a stepping stone to organize maybe 3-4 group rides a year in the Florida Area, where some of us that chat here on a regular basis can get together on the water as well as on the forums. Over the course of 2013 maybe we could use this as inspiration to organize rides in Tampa, Miami, Orlando, etc.

If it expands quickly that's terrific, I'm cool either way, but my personal preference is a group of 10-15 max where we can keep tabs on everybody and still have an opportunity to personally meet & chat all the forum members that attend.

A few things.... Lake Roy is small, but the entire chain of lakes is probably close to 9 or 10 miles from end to end. There are a few good sized lakes and the longest connecting channel is less than 1/2 mile. There is a marina that sells gas on Lake May. Their website:

http://www.marinesupplyboats.com/

There are at least 2 restaurant/bars accessible by water. Frank & Manny's Harborside is brand new and just opened last week. It's on Lake Shipp. Old Man Frank's is on Lake Howard and is more of a dive (good for this group I'm guessing).

We have a Seadoo Challenger 2000 I could bring if a boat is really needed.

Of course, we can always watch the ski shows at Legoland!!!

Well Great News!!! I just had a long and wonderful conversation with John Campbell at Lake Roy Bch Inn. He is all about it. He said that other boat clubs meet there throughout the year and from his lake we can go all over town. He has a boat ramp on site and room for 15 or more of us to invade with trailers. He really sounded like good people and asked that I mentioned to you guys to call him directly at (863)324-6320 for booking to save him some fees.

I left my name and our date. For now I just said to put us under Seadoo Forum Meet and Greet. He said he has all different kinds of rooms available.

oh by the way Dennis, I was privileged enough to experience your pain a few weeks ago when test riding a members ski, dislocated my shoulder at 61mph and had to coast to a stop over some chop with virtual knives sticking in my socket. Chuck towed me to shore where I worked on it for a few minutes before I could pop it back in and then rode the ski back to the ramp very slowly and one handed. Thankfully we were only about 3 miles from the ramp so it wasn't that far, but every bump in the water stung like fire.

Man that hurt like a biatch !!!! I never ever ever want to do that again !

good deal Matt! I might have gone a bit overboard but last year we started a thread on having a weekend in the Dells in WI. It was just a few people BSing about it...but once we locked in some of the details it ended up being 75ish people the first year.

Thanks to Matt for stepping up...if you need any advise or help just hit me up.

All you FL guys...lets see some commitment!!

Yes, thanks Matt for contacting them.

Nick, although this is Florida, we are talking January. The weather can be questionable. I'm thinking turnout could be higher if the weather were guaranteed to be 82 and sunny. We could have highs in the 50's that weekend if you northerner's decide to send a front our way then! :)

anybody up for a warm up ride ?

this weeks rain looks to be in our favor for a peace river ride.

peace river ride this sunday, 11am, launching from Arcadia heading south 20ish miles towards navigator, back to ramp, brief lunch break & refuel then north towards brownsville 20ish miles and back. pack a lunch/snack and enough gas for 80ish miles of river running. i'll post ramp address when I get to my home computer.

i've lived in FL for 31 years, at those temps I don't even go outside to check the mail !

ROFLMAO to Spim.....It was about 40 here today but sunny, even the solar heat fan came on......

......wonder if they make a solar A/C unit for you Florida guys.

I wouldn't want to to put on thermo clothing to go riding on a jetski when it's 40 outside......the wind chill on your face must be murder.

For me it's winter boot most every morning to get the paper then again later to get the mail.....LOL.....:)

you and minnetonka should car pool and both come im hoping to hit the freeride on sunday

i did the freeride like 3 yrs ago, the one where it was really cold out, it didn't appeal to me much, but I didn't know many people at the time either so I felt a little lost. ps.. are you still running my old pump in your HX ? (i'm still running yours :) )

nope i actually broke that pump when i was racing world finals 2011 it didn't like 7700 rpms it blew the plastic veins out, i actually just bought a 6 vein skat trak pump with prop.

spim, when u get the chance, could you please post ramp coordinates, thanks!

its a weird address so the best I can give is the following, the CircleK on the corner of the intersection.

4347 U.S. 17
Arcadia, FL 34266

from there you go west on County Rd 760 about 1/2 mile, cross the river and the boat ramp is on the left hand side.

if water levels aren't high enough even with the rain, we'll move the launch south to

Harbour Heights Park. 27420 Voyageur Drive, Punta Gorda, FL which will allow us to stay in the lower peace river and Charlotte harbor.

i'll be watching the water levels at
http://waterdata.usgs.gov/usa/nwis/uv?site_no=02296750

cool thanks, I'm kinda sorta thinkin bout it, but it's a 70 mile drive, which is pretty reasonable, but I should really be saving on gas :(
