That beach are the resort looked GREAT! Looks like a great weekend guys!

the beach was nice, the resort... well.... it suited its purpose, allowed several of us to stay at the same location, and had plenty of room for visitors.

It was your classic roadside dive, relatively clean, but very old and out dated. One of those places you drive by on vacation say to yourself... "what possessed those people to book a room there?"

the lakes themselves were "ok' two of them were large enough to be acceptable, the others were pretty small, the no wake zones between them weren't unbearable, but quite murky with a LOT of chunks floating in the water, it worried a few of us that have ECWI, i checked my jets the minute I got home, I haven't looked closely at my water filter, but I'll likely put a new one on as soon as I dig one up out of my parts bin. One pump had to be pulled because a bag got sucked in, no big deal.

Personally I wouldn't take my wife back there for a vacation, she'd really rag on me if I took her there (that hotel) for a trip. She'd actually like the lakes.

Overall I think there are much better options for a gathering, but like I said, it suited our purposes just fine for what we needed. But personally I was pretty happy to check out Sunday morning. (and it was a LOT better than the econo lodge across the street which had a dark green pool straight out of "my name is earl".)

Looking forward I would like to make some attempt to do this on a semi regular basis (5-6 times a year) with some various locations throughout the state, but if we were going to do the Orlando area again, i'd suggest Mt. Dora, I think its a much better choice.

Mt Dora, Tampa, Miami, Lake Placid, and the Peace River would be the first 5 that come to mind for medium to large groups, and i'd love to have some peeps meet us on the K river or the St. Johns for some nice runs (small groups, fast skis) we already started some preliminary discussion on those locations, and will continue to do so.

we'd probably need to start a new thread or 3 in the Florida section where these threads really belong, much like they have done over on GH website we can post "anytime rides" and build from there.

We'll try to coordinate around when people will be in/out of town, around races in Florida or other events like the Freeride.

All in all it was a great event for a first attempt, and I think we can build from here, and arrange a few day trips over the course of 2013, establish some great relationships and have a lot of fun spending time on the water.

So.. Florida Peeps, next week pop over to the Florida section and we'll try to start making some plans for Spring/Summer 2013.

nam? tell us more about this ride spot with mangrove runs in your area....

spim this is where I ride, I screen shot the path, there is a good amount of distance, hard to estimate, but pretty sure you can ride 30-40 min wot, and the water is always like glass, not a single wave, i love it!! and if u want waves go out to the bay, it gets pretty nasty

i actually live in this community,

http://www.staylittleharbor.com/

it would be perfect for a meet, there are tons of condos for rent (including the one next door, it's a 3/3), the big building is actually a hotel, and if we get tired of this area, we can trailer into tampa, or down to sarasota or something, like u said, even a daytrip or something, but the facilities are great for a weekend, there is access to pools, hot tubs, a grille (singular)

i can't see those images, they come out tiny....
but I located the address from the website.. looks to be about a 2 hour tow from ft myers, within acceptable range for me.
you launch there and head south then inland ?

ok cool, this might made a good spot for our next ride,

does it make sense to move this future stuff to the florida section ?
and the 2 stroke section can get back to doing what it does ?

Dang Nam that looks like high rent district, you need to lower your standards(or your fiance does). And $7 for a ramp--I'd pay that no problem. By me it's $20 a drop and some ramps charge by the ski, so if you have a double you pay twice, unless you get a seasonal pass. The best is the stand up guys, they use the parking lot(free) and get their beach cart from their trucks and wheel their skis right in front of the collection station and right down the little beach FO' FREE. It's priceless and legit. It looks like you have some good riding there, I love running the snakes.

haha, i wish, high rent district!!! don't be fooled by this "resort" and condos that is not indicative of ruskin. the name ruskin pretty much describes it, it's a pretty rundown and ghetto place.

LOL if they pulled that crap up here I'd be doing the same thing with my X-4 and my cart. The main reason I dont ride the Croix up here is b/c of the fees. Why would I pay when I can get on Tonka for free.

Thats too bad on the outdated rooms...sounds like they were too old for what was paid. Def keep us northerners in mind for a bigger get together next year...maybe with all the rides you guys look to be putting together you'll find a honey hole of a spot to have a big get together next Jan. Id' perfer it to be within 2 hours of Daytona...but thats just me.

I'm willing to do that ride.....in April.

I'm just gonna have to stash a ski down in Central Fl I guess. I'm sure Nam's neighbors wouldn't mind :biggrinjester:

april sounds like a very reasonable time frame

dennis, how r we gonna ride in tampa without salt water ? :)

No lakes in that area? Sorry I just don't do salt I have seen how it tears everything up

You can keep one stored at my house. Im gonna start looking for a 4 stroke n/a so I don't have issues like I did this last time.

salt is unavoidable along the florida coastline, even the river's I ride are at best brackish... its not that easy to find truly fresh water unless your riding on Lake XYZ.
I have no issues with Tampa, and no intentions to wait until April, but i'll do April as well, I was thinking more along the lines of next sunday :) (getting home before superbowl of course) RE: Tampa Bay, i'm not a huge fan of the gulf, or tampa bay itself, after about 20 minutes i'm beat up on the XP, but back bay riding and rivers, i'm totally down with that.
matt I doubt your serious about stashing a ski, but if you are, I have an extra 3 car garage from April to November, assuming I don't piss off my neighbors between now and then.
