Drain Plug Light fixture

Are you using the 1/2npt brass into the factory plastic threads?
Some kids (I think) snatched my drain plugs out of my Islandia last night. I was looking to see if anyone knew what size they are and I ran across your post.
Interesting..... Very interesting.

It's a tough call to confirm at this time. If you have the plastic ones that so many small boats have then there is only a a couple rounds of thread to attach too. My 1/2NPT seem to go in there but get snug in a hurry and being brass...I don't want to push it to hard, yet. I have no problem upgrading to brass inserts if I need too..

I"m hoping to test the boat this weekend and see if there is any water ingress to confirm if the fit is good. I don't know what I did with the plugs that came out to compare them to an NPT female.

As of now I feel the answer is "yes" I just haven't really cranked them in there yet.

My stock drain is a 1" plastic

Did you purchase the Typhon PLASTIC thread light?

Looks like I missed your last post, will comment...

Today I finally got to test run the (new to me) boat. The drain plug lights are 1/2NPT and were leaking a bit. I didn't tighten them to much being brass fittings on plastic. I noted (via flashlight) very little water trickling in on the threads. Ran the boat for an hour...and I'm confident to say that the plastic OEM insert is 1/2NPT and your standard plug/lights fit fine. When I pulled the boat out I was able to give them another 1/3 to 1/2 turn to snug them up...I'm quite sure that would do it.

I'd suggestion you buy them and if you feel your have cross threaded the plastic simply by new threaded inserts. We put them on a boat we restored an usually they just drill out and pop off with a little anger.

I do think they could be easy to cross thread the plastic if you don't take your time as they only have a thread or two of "twist" on them. Even some plumbers silicon tape would help a bit.

I will follow up when I test run the boat again this weekend.

Now I got eBay specials that can be found via FIREWATERMARINE1 if you search. They were $24.29 each and well built, bright, sealed with a LED DRIVEr and quick disconnect...but only a 60 day warranty : (.

Also, search by this heading you'll see his stuff: SUPER BLUE 800 LUMENS GARBOARD LED BOAT DRAIN PLUG LIGHT UNDERWATER 1/2" NPT.

I purchased the Typhon 1/2" NPT and replaced my plastic drains with the garboard. I will post pics after I get them set up.

Has anyone attempted to illuminate the front fountain with LEDs?

Everyone. Run. Buy my low cost LED now!! They could be brighter but for the price they are awesome. We may murky water in my marina. I was alone on night ride and couldn't get a good photo in motion. Will shoot video this weekend.

I like the blue lights in the water. Looks cool but will not install only because I never used my boat at night. Maybe I'm missing something?

Nothing to miss if you don't ride at night. Plus it looks great while just chilling at the marina after hours.

I trailer my SeaDoo, so no marina life. When I had my 30 ft Trojan Clean Machine, we had the Marina life. Used the boat as a weekend retreat and went on two week vacations with the boat. Miss that life.

I bought brass garboard drains from Walmart.com ($8 ea) and a tube of 5200 sealant. I removed the 2 screws from my old plastic drain and cleaned off all remaining silicone sealant. I drilled 3 new holes. I used the 5200 to seal up the 2 old holes and I used a generous amount of sealant on the new drain plug. I waited 2 days before putting it in the water with no leaks. They aren't as bright as I would have hoped. But for the price I guess they are ok.

Thanks for the info...so new ones fit right in w/o having to enlarge the existing hole? I may be running to Wallyworld tomorrow then...I"m sure the Islandia and Challenger are similar down there.

FYI that 5200 does't need to wait to be dunked. IT actually cures in water and many people will use to bed things submerged! Messy but great stuff!

For those that find this thread here is a video of the LEDs in question. Our marina is very murky and I think this is also pretty great for the price.

Ok my eBay special lights didn't make the summer. Half of the diodes were out and that's a boat that is out of the water 98% of its life. Contacted eBay guy ( if seller out of Kentucky) and offered me an upgrade by just paying difference but decided to upgrade to the Diablos due to lifetime warranty plus I got the nifty RF switch for $12 or so...works well and the are well designed and way brighter but won't see in the water till next spring. This boat is done for season at our marina and for night running.

How much more were the diablos? And what's the RF?

I bought 2 of the typhoons at the beginning of the summer. I thought you bought the diablos

You are correct I got the Typhoons too...not sure where I got Diablo in this discussion...thought it was on the box or such. Are you happy with yours?

My eBay specials just didn't hold up well at all and I did everything correct. I think the BoatPlugLight.com guys reference the guy I got the eBay specials from in one of their marketing videos...they are clearly close in design and the quality looked OK but the components inside are crap.

EDIT: Wish I was silly with my money and I would try one of those 8000 lumen plugs on their site!

Well I will have to say that they are not nearly as bright as I had hoped. The wake does not light up at all. Visibility in our lakes is at least 10ft so I would definitely think that's not my problem. I am not silly with my money either. LOL!

I seem to recall you saying that now...total bummer. The eBay ones i had were only 800 lumens and lite up the wake quite well in Lake Erie at night as well as in the well at the marina at night..and these look even brighter at 1000 lumens. I'm sure the quality of the water may impact it for sure.

I wouldn't think it would take 8000 lumens...wonder why they don't have something in the 2000-3000 range. two of those would do some damage for sure!

That sux, but thanks for giving us the feedback so we can avoid these products.

Don't get me wrong. They are great quality product!! And they are guaranteed for life!
I had hoped for brighter but I'm sure water clarity plays a big role. My complaint is that there's a HUGE price jump to the next level which is what I think I would need possibly.

I would agree and if it's not bright enough for me come spring I'll pass on to the company owner for a need for something in the $100 range but twice the brightness!
