I'm looking to put in some drain plug lights. I like these...

http://boatpluglight.com/products/the-diablo

However I can't out if my drain screw is the 1/2 NPT this light screws in. I don't know if that's just a standard fitting and if Seadoo followed that? My boat is a 2011 180 Challenger SE. If anyone knows this information I would appreciate to know as well.

Thanks!

I'm not sure the size thread on the drain plug, but you can always run up to HD or Lowes and pick up a cheap 1/2" male NPT plastic fitting and check it out. Or you can remove the plug and run it up to the store and try it out in a female 1/2" NPT fitting.

I've seen this product in my FB feed for a while. I'm curious as to how much light it gives out. If you wind up picking one up, please post pics when she's in the water.

My buddy just got the craziest one you can get. He has a sick 230 Speedster.

Yes, that is the standard size thread and will fit your boat. Ask yourself two questions: 1- Why would they make an odd size threat that would not fit all boat drains? 2- Just why? If your answer to #2 is "because it looks cool" then go for it. Post pictures when complete.

What ever floats your boat.

It's so odd that so many of y'all question it. It's pretty big in this area for people to have lights in the water whether they are partying at the dock or partying at a sand bar...Maybe a generational thing? Why do any mod? But thanks for clarifying about the size. I wasn't sure if each manufacturer was different because they also sell the screw piece and it wasn't far fetched to me that they could all be different.

If for some reason the light doesn't fit just change the female fitting. You quote, that it's odd that so many of y'all question it. Why would care what other people think? I said if you like it and think it cool.... just go for it. Many boaters don't use their boats at night. Too many mosquitoes.

The best suggestion is to buy a similar thread unit at the hard ware store and try. The drain plugs on my boat feel like a different thread.

On second thought, it would not surprise me that BRP/Sea.Doo went metric. In that case you would have to upgrade from plastic to a brass boat drain, female fitting.

Yeah the site sells the female end. I'm putting this on hold for now though. I have seen them in person and they look really cool when you are driving. However I'm just focused on getting my sound system finished.

I've put a delay to this project but will keep you updated.

Thanks. May try to beat you too it and report back too. I was looking at a similar need and those lights in the link are awesome for the price! Hope to test out the 1/2NPT this weekend. Stay tuned.

Thank's, from what it sounds like it is what we have however ours is just plastic thread and I guess that means it could get messed up. I think if I were to do it I would just get the female ends they offer. For my boat I know the difference is 2 screws to 3 screws so I may need to drill, not sure how it's in the boat right now...and probably something to seal it.

I've restored a few traditional boats over the years. Even if the drain plug was screwed up yeah they are easy to swap out...you can just take the assembly out and marine sealant one back in easily going from plastic to brass. Yes getting them out is the worse part but I'm sure drilling out this plastic one would be a solution. Any one reading this post in the future shouldn't be to concerned.

I just read those comments that BPR may have done metric (skeptical) and like you wanted to confirm before spending $100+ on light plugs. Done many a light on boats (thru transom with no wood cores) but don't figured this solution looks easy and still get the fun factor. Will report back for other who are curious.

New LED drain plugs are in and the drains are in fact stand sized threads, 1/2NPT. Love my new eBay blue LED with regulator.

Pictures would be nice of in the water. I often wonder if it's worth it.

Will do but don't hold your breath. I"m about a month out on the boat getting wet and at night. The "worth" factor is getting the right lights. I've had lights on two other (larger) boats. One I bought inexpensive lights 5-6 years ago and they were anticlimactic and needed a doubling of them the next season and on another boat I got right the first time with better quality light.

I can tell you that LED are way better then 3-4 years ago for the "bang to buck" factor. Having dual plug lights (800 lumens, claimed each) should look pretty impressive. They light up the driveway as it is now!

I based this purchase on claimed lumens, LED driver and long wire and it's epoxied together. $24 shipped each! Wasn't to long ago this would have cost you $300 but only time will tell of the build quality. My initial inspection makes me think it's pretty good.

I'm sure posting eBay listings is a "no no" so send me a PM if anyone wants to know which ones I got.

Carboncow take your time. It's still cold in my lake in SC. I am willing to wait patently.

We are not patient boaters up here on Lake Erie...to much money spent for to short a season!

Big boat goes in the water next week and will have a couple weekend getting is ready.

SC just went back into C180 today, oil change, plugs and filter. Installed air intake and installing oil catch here after lunch. If all goes well sea trial will be Friday but no nights until shortly before Memorial Day. Stay tuned!

FYI I showed the wife the lights last night...she thought they were blinding compared to the old boat with lights out of water. Even with our murky (at times) Lake Erie they should rally glow!

EDIT: it was 80F yesterday and snowing here two 10 days ago.

Are you using the 1/2npt brass into the factory plastic threads?
Some kids (I think) snatched my drain plugs out of my Islandia last night. I was looking to see if anyone knew what size they are and I ran across your post.
Interesting..... Very interesting.
