So rebuild went good except the big f up of reversing hoses. But that wasnt catastrophic. Went to the water and it ran good for 5 min then locked up. Tore it down and the rotary gear was destroyed the gouging as in pic and i found a f ing lock washer in there!!!!

Oh no! Well, good news is rotary gear is pretty cheap to replace. You just have to flush all the shavings and debris out of that gear cavity... That will be tricky, but is doable. I'd use some sort of circulating pump and a light oil, like 15W motor oil or some cheap tc-w3 oil. I'd flush it one way, then the other and set up some sort of filter in the middle. You might be able to rig up a bilge pump to do it. have it suck oil out of the top of a tub and return it to the bottom of the same tub, that way the heavier pieces will tend to stay at the bottom. I wouldn't worry about the very fine particulate, as it should get caught by the in-line oil filter before the oil pump. I'd also drain the oil tank and use clean oil or run it through a filter at least.

what about the gouging on the rotary valve cover and case?? from what im reading , new cases are needed. looks like i can get cases and rotary shaft set up fairly inexpensive. anyone here have a good deal?

How bad is the gouging? You might be able to get away with just a new valve, but it really depends on the extent of the gouging... I know your pain. I had a needle bearing fall apart and one needle made it into the motor. I was doing a top end on the motor and it blew up right there in the garage upon first start. Had to totally rebuild it...

IMG_20150804_080827446_HDR.jpgsee pic. kind of relatively deep . catches fingernail really well. its a concave gouge. would this cause issues?

Well, not sure with a gouge that deep. Haven't had experience with one like that. If you already have it apart, I'd go ahead n get new cases. If not, maybe try it n see. This might make it harder to start as this would simulate excessive rv clearance. Also might always suck a little extra air from the other port during operation, but I can't imagine it would be that noticeable. Anyone got experience with this?

Well, I wouldn't run them and its not worth the time to fix it either

If you can braze it and get it smooth and you don't need to take the cases apart I would give it a shot. If you need to split the cases to clean it out it might be better to get a different set.

OK, either your a pro welder or I'm just crazy. Well, I know I'm not fully crazy, but that ain't a 5 minute fix. I have a tig at home and I still send stuff out cause it's cheaper than I can do it for. To do it right that needs to be tig welded, not brazed. Then set up in a CNC or a mill and properly machined. When it comes to my toy, I try hard not to cut corners especially in an engine. A set of cases are like a hundo or so.

It's not worth the time to fix it. As far as why not to use them, you don't want any link between the 2 ports for the possibility of air transfer. Now, they might be just fine as is but why chase your tail on a run issue later and have to tear evreything back apart?

$109 shipped, he has 2 sets. I'd ask for the one with the CB fill plug

I feel like some prolific blogger one of us needs a skeet ski, a pos that they don't care about and can try out these backyard rigs and let us all know how long they really last.

what about the cover its gouged as well. not quite as bad but can it be used . is it as imperative that its not compromised for running correctly?

bought cases off ebay BUUUUT....sucessfully BRAZED the cover. if you braze correctly it is part of the piece permanently actually blend the alluminum om a molecular level. Heated the whole thing on my grill then got the specific area op to ~ 740 degrees then ground down and checked by putting piece og glass with thin layer of silicone to check for high / low spots
