Bogging issue check

During the course of fixing a multitude of problems w/ the 97 GTX I bought last week, I came across an issue w/ the water seperator. When I cleaned it , I didn't like the way it seated. Anyway, after the whole filter / fuel line change, carb cleaning, it would still bog at high end. So I go back to this seperator and it won't tighten anymore w/o jumping a thread, so for the short term, I wipe some Hi-perf Copper Loctite RTV around the seal, let it dry and test drive. NO issues, it runs 7500rpm w/o a hiccup.

If you are having any suspected fuel delivery issues, this can't hurt.

I'm sure someone has submitted a replacement for this OEM part which I'll do during the next cleaning.

Hope it helps someone. Here is a pic.

seems that after you take off the water seperator the gasket doesn't fit back on it very well if its old, I just had a heck of a time trying to get one back on, it was jumping a thread because the gasket wasn"t seated in the groove very well, if you get a new gasket that should fix your problem, that way you will still be able to pull the seperator/filter off and on as needed.

I'm not being critical, especially if your method worked, but replacing the "O" ring would have the same effect.

Just saw the picture, that sir is what I call a ghettoooo fix lol. The O rings aren't very expensive, but I'm glad it worked for you.

Sometimes you just need to do what you have to to get it running. Not everyone has easy access to parts. I would do the same, and get the new O ring when you can.

Never said I have never ghetto rigged something. It was more of a compliment in my opinion. If it still leaks, hell just add alittle more sealent .haha

Just stating the orings are cheap, and would take 2-3 days max to receive. Might spend that amount of time trying to get the RTV off

Yea,
This was a temp fix like I said and got us on the water the past 3 days. O-ring would take a week and no guarantees. Both threads inner and outer didn't look that great. It's not the best design, real easy to bump while you're in there. I'd like something a little more heavy duty, maybe I can modify something.

I'm under the impression that it's stock until I find out otherwise, yes, pulls just under 7500. Top speed has been 51 so far, but usually in the 45-49 range.
Maybe if I do the carbon ring it will pick up a little.

Get rid of that POS water separator if it is no good, on my 97 GTI (sold) I installed a mini Racor 10 micron & water separater fuel filter and the screen in my carb remained spotless ever since!

I'll double check next time out if you think it is way off. I still have that slipping issue occasionally , probably due to the carbon ring someone had mentioned. RPMs do spike when this happens, possible I have that # in my head.

Are your carbs rejetted ?
