Hi, new to the forum so hop this is in the right place. Bought a 97 gtx 3 seater a couple of years ago. Seadoo had been sitting up awhile, low hours, but ran fine the first couple of years. This year it started skipping a little and then would even back out and run fine. Did this several times so took it to our local seadoo and boat rental place to have a look. (Owners are friends, turned out to be a problem) Mech. calls in 2 days says both carb. have to been be redone to the tune of 580.00. Ok, can handle that, got it back in 4 days on July 3rd just in time to enjoy the lake on the 4th. Ran the boat for 20 minutes and motor gave a loud clank and locked up and would not crank. Finally cranked but decided to tow back. Took straight back to mech. and waited and waited... After 2 weeks I call and he says sorry but you have blown out the bottom of the motor & will have to have a motor job another 1200 (used motor). I then find out that the head had been changed and he didn't know the exact settings and had to go online to figure them out & had to take apart & reset 3 times to get it running right. Now my question is could he have cause the motor to blow by not have carbs set correctly. Have been told this by novice mechanics. We are now looking at a small claims case but want to have my ducks in a row. Any comments?

friends like that, who needs enemies,....I don't doubt that, the carbs played a sugnificant roll,.. not enough gass?,or not enough octane, since head is different,...but dont think you have a case, multiple things could contribute, bearings just go bad/worn, or could've sucked something in pump housing, caus'n motor to be extremely hot..etc, variable possibilities, that cant be overlooked...again, bummer for the problem...

The hard part will be proving that he set the carbs wrong and that is the reason the engine failed.
