Yep... I have 2 of that same one in my shop.

I had a buddy give my an off-brad version... and it was junk, and hit the trash... but a real "Jr" is a good charger, maintainer.

WEATHERPROOF DESULFATING BATTERY CHARGER/MAINTAINER
Saves neglected, deep-discharged batteries that other smart chargers cant and is ideal for all 12V AGM, GEL and standard filler cap batteries from 3 to 50aH
Compatible with either conventional or CAN-bus electrical systems and includes IP64 weatherproof sealed enclosure with built-in mounting option
Switch between STANDARD or CAN-bus programs with a simple 5-step procedure (charger comes pre-programmed STANDARD for conventional electrical systems)
You can switch programs as many times as you would like

Optimal maintenance of your battery during long-term storage, achieved by its gentle maintenance cycle which automatically allows the battery to rest for 30 minutes of each hour of the maintenance cycle while it remains connected
Fused eyelet connector for permanent mounting and battery clip set for bench charging is included

I'm rocking $7 dollar Harbor Freight float chargers. We'll see how it goes. So far they've worked great.

Saw this unit at a local motosports shop and owner said he really liked it. I had so many batteries to keep up during the winter I liked the ability to do 12 batteries at a time. Also much cheaper than anything else I saw available for multiple batteries. So far seems to be doing a good job.

The link is to google, but I got mine through Amazon. They are available in both 120 volt and 220 volt models.

I use a battery minder and I have 5 batteries in parallel hook up to it. One of the boat batteries was weak and the desulphanating feature repaired it back up to full voltage. I did have a lot of time though with the drought.

The battery tender is it! I keep it on the move between 7 outside seadoos and have not lost a battery in a long time. It's seen many nights of hard rain and hot sunny days. I have 3 other trickle chargers I don't use because I have cooked batteries before when the circuit breaker doesn't kick. I've learned to love and trust the green/red light system.

The mans charger is about $65 and Has paid for itself 5 times over bringing sulfated batteries back from the dead.

lol ok, well, i see your point, save 1 battery and its paid for itself and then some...

well, next time the need comes up... i'll follow your advice and get the optimate 4 :)

seeing that I bring home turd skis all the time I get all these batteries that have sat. My other chargers wont even try to charge them....

Regardless...its the only charger with a micro processor...and its water proof.

ya, same here, i bring home turds but generally if its not a known good battery, i just replace it vs try to revive, but its possible i'm throwing good money away. I rebuild more often than parting out so usually i prefer to put a new agm in there and its one less thing to worry about.

I will probably invest in one of these as soon as the tax man is done carving out chunks of my old hide and I see if anything is left.

I got 4 of the Harbor Freight float chargers over time with sales/coupons and just started using a couple of them a month or so ago, one on a new battery and one on the battery from my latest acquisition after charging them up with the regular charger.

Last weekend I put the new battery into old 5802 to do compression checks and it was dead. I put in the older battery and all was well. Of course in the rush I lost track of which float charger was hooked up to where and am still reviewing if the new battery failed or the float charger failed.

I should have known better than to totally trust the indicator on the float chargers; best to hang a meter on the battery occasionally.

ordered my new Optimate 4 last night after a quick conversation with tonka about the benfits :)

Ok i broke down and bought one of these,,, under $70 shipped
and....
Well, your right !!!
had 3 bad batteries at the shop completely dead, the Optimate saved one of them, it works good now and held a charge for a week so far, will work great as a test battery
also saved a customers battery, so this little contraption has already saved two batteries and paid for itself....

nice tip Nick !!!

I have a couple desulfating chargers too... and they will bring back a battery once in a while. They work well with a battery that is good, but been flat because of discharge. (That's where the sulfate builds) BUT... if it's an old battery... it can't work miracles on weak acid, and decayed plates.

Desulfating chargers are good to have in the shop, and the one above adds waterproof to the list.... Humm.... may have to get one.
