I picked up a 1999 GSX RFI off a guy I worked with at the beginning of 2019 for 700$, i knew it needed a Stator but at 700$ I couldn't resist. First thing I noticed was I definitely did NOT have an RFI, but a carbureted 787... Long story short, the Stator was fired and the trigger coil was just floating in the housing and the Starter had snapped at the Bendex. Once I got the new OEM parts from my Local dealer and got them installed, it fired up on the trailer after about 2 minutes of trying. I knew my mechanical limitations and decided to bite the bullet and have the dealer do all the fuel lines, fuel filters and carb rebuild. Once I got it back I put about 10 hours on it with no problems before the Canadian Winter set in and I put it away for the year.

With Covid having all my access to water closed when the weather got nice I decided to tackle the paint, the hull was rough and had a few deep chips so I got a gel coat kit and filled everything i needed to. I also pulled the traction mats and used the gel coat to fill all the rivet holes simply because I had enough of it. Removed the graphics and all the glue. Then got to work sanding out the worst spots on the hull. Tomorrow I will be sanding the chipping paint on the topside so its fully prepped by Wednesday when my package arrives.

PAINT STARTS HERE.

I plan on using Interlux Brightside single step enamel, above AND below the water line, and i plan on rolling and tipping it on because I don't have a place to spray paint (I'm doing all of this in my driveway and front lawn, don't be my Neighbor) I also want some sort of sparkle or glitter look in the paint, almost like a bass boat, just not as aggressive. I haven't found anyone who has tried to roll on a glitter so I'm going to be a Guinea pig.

I am going for a black hull, with a grey topside and red accents. I will be trying to mix different colors of Interlux Brightside with Black Dimond Pigment, Ecopoxy polyester glitter. I will not be thinning the paint in any way and hopefully the Pigment can stay suspended long enough for me to get it on the boat. Then I will wet sand and buff and hope for the best. If anyone has any questions comments or concerns let me know, pictures of the test patches will come tomorrow night. If it works well and there is enough interest ill make a detailed post about the full hull paint process later in the week. 20190807_110113.jpg20190505_180510.jpg20190602_191847.jpg20190529_151752.jpg20200522_140926.jpg20200522_141005.jpg20200525_181554.jpg20200525_181615.jpg20200525_181633.jpg
