99 GSX-Rear electrical box cover help

Took the cover off to inspect everything and cannot get it to go back and lock.
It fits over but Cannot get the tabs to lock??

Is there a trick or tool for this.
If anyone knows please help, cannot put it in the water until I get it back on.

Thanks

Take the rubber gasket out of the groove in the cover and install it around the outside of the box. It's a good idea to use silicone grease on it. It should go right on.

Why put it on the outside?
That is like putting the condom on the broom handle and jumping in bed.
The gasket will not be in the right place.
The question remains how do you press it on with the gasket in the right place?

It doesn't go in the groove in the cover! The "right place" is around the outer edge of the box! It presses on very easy if you do it right!

When I took it off it was in the groove.

THe hard part is compressing the gasket to fit back on and get that water tight fit that you need.

chester is right, I had the same issue and asked the same question 4 months ago... I did what he said and it worked... It's still tight so you have to really push to get it to snap in...

Take it out of the groove and install it properly (not in the groove).
