97 yamaha waverunner

family friends had one of those and a waveblaster 2 with the same 760 motor. the yami 760 was developed for the pro785 class i think it was called. they're good stable skis for riding 2 or 3 up and have plenty of power, around 90hp. those were available with the 760 or the 1100 engine. they have an lcd info screen which i think will show hours, a typical yamaha bar tach, digital speedo and fuel gauge.

I think thats a wave venture.
the 760 is a good motor, although i'd prefer the 701 for long term ownership but don't let that deter you, its just that parts a slightly less plentiful, but the engine is a solid one, top ends are under $500,
yami's are more prone to oil pump issues so consider premix, just saying its an option.
thats a good price for a good ski and i'd consider it a beginner family or weekend lake house ski it won't impress your friends or neighbors but it will probably poke along for the next 100 hours just fine...
my preference of the 2 stroke wave runners is the xl models vs the ventures, probably due to color schemes being much more attractive over the ventures.
it should run 50mph maybe 1-2% more and cruise nicely in the 35-40 range with mid rpm and has a good fuel range, over 60miles if I remember the tank on the venture is the big one (just under 14 gallons i think or just under 15). i've sold a couple with solid running engines in the 1400-1600 range so 1350 is a good price, (i'd still low ball him with 1100 benjamins tho)
pro's
established hull/model, rides chop well, semi workhorse engine (701 = workhorse) acceptable top speed but on the low end of the scale, good fuel range, carves well.
con's
doesn't turn on a dime, or even a quarter, it turns on a silver dollar at best. colors age the ski last decades themes, not particularly powerful no real holeshot, as far as a 'fun' ski it rates about a 3 on a 10 scale. as far as family ski it rates about a 7.

I'm probably biased, but I think the best family ski is a 96GTI mainly because of the hull design, it does turn on a dime, it's easy to do 180's and you can even get a 360 not too many big ski's will do that. It will run with smaller ski's it just takes a little longer to get up to speed.

sorry, i was a bit unclear, that is a waveventure, our friends had a waveventure AND a blaster 2, both with the 760. i rode the 'venture the most, mainly because it was on the lower spot on their double lift, and had reverse so you could get on, lower the lift, and back out in the cold water/warm weather months without having to get in the water.

I did find a 96 gti that looks in great shape. Haven't called on it yet. No trailer for $1,100. Not sure which one, the 97 yami or 96 gti. I know many will probably be biased in this forum but which do you think? Not too worried about how it cuts in the water or WOW factor, just want good, stable cruiser. Have an spx for that, not that's it's in the top WOW factor but it's fun.

the GTI isn't going to handle as well as the waveventure would, not sure about difference in ride, but 90-95 all of the three-seat seadoos were the same hull, the GTX in 96 had a new hull with 2-piece seat and the 787 engine, but the other two (gts and gti) were the same as before, and 96 was the first year for the 760 and the waveventure, so its a more recent hull. the GTI that year has the 718, which is a good reliable engine that makes 85hp. i'm going to go against the crowd, i think the yami 760 making 90hp will have more torque at lower rpms, and have better power with passengers or pulling tubes. if you were comparing this yami with the 96 or 97 gtx, i'd go with the sea doo, but i think the waveventure is a better ski than the 96 GTI

The 96/97 gtx are just a bit out my price range @ $2000. i"m trying to stay @ $1400 or less...or else I would. thanks for the input.

as long as you check it over thoroughly for whatever the common issues are on those 760's, i think you'll have a good ski for a pretty good price.

it's gone.

But... there's nothing wrong with the Yami skis. There are a few of the hulls that weren't the greatest... but they are all fun.

You're not giving yourself much wiggle room at that price. From what i've seen if you find something in the year range you're talkiing about it usually has either a ton of hours/damage or needs a rebuild. The last one you posted doesn't have a trailer so you might as well figure that into your budget also unless you have a double trailer.

Sorry Dr. Honda, what's gone?
