I have a 1997 GTX the motor runs good and strong, however it is no longer charging the battery. Let me start off by saying the 12 volt low light has been on the gauges since I have owned the ski. But only the past two weeks has it not been charging the battery. I have replaced the battery, I understand it could be a bad battery to start with. But here is my question how can I check the charging system of the ski, What should I be looking for on the meter and if the voltage is low when running what needs to be replaced or fixed to sove the issue. Any help would be great. :bigear:

Thanks again
Aaron

We have three and all of them has the 12 v light coming on but they are running good. But I can't get my clock set does any one know how to set it and my mph and gas g is out ?

replace the rectifier.

replace the rectifier.

:agree:

put a voltmeter on the batty if while the ski is running it is charing 12+V but less than 15V then the rectifier is good, move on to the stator.
I had the same issue on my 97 GTX I swapped out the rectifer and its good as new now

ok I have put a meter on the battery I get about .5 voltage change with the ski running. When I rev the motor I get no change.......

I have worked on car audio install for many years, so I do have an understanding on how charging systems work on cars but I do know that the jet ski's are a little different. That is all that I know about the 12 volt systems on them. Can some one explain the in's and out's of the jet ski charging systems. IE rectifier changes ac to dc but what is the stator and magneto and how do they fit into this. I am all ears :bigear::confused:
