Hi guys,

As it turns out I need a new or decent quality engine for my 96 sea doo gsx (787 engine). My neighbours friend has a 96 GTX and he claims its exactly the same 787 engine and is willing to sell it to me. Can anyone 100% confirm if they are identical? Photos he sent me looks exact. He lives about 2 hours away and I'd rather be certain before making the journey. I'll also purchase his jet pump.

I do know that the 96 GTX have no VTS and mine does, so the steering knozzle will be useless to me.

But is this basically the only difference?. It even appears that the electrical rear box is identical.

Thanks guys, look forward to hearing from you,

yep...it'll work, even has identical carb/s. If the bottom end in your motor is good, slap set pistons in, along with hone job, for 200buks...?

Yeah, this engine he's selling has tested at 143 - 141 psi compression. All I have to do is dismantle it and pay him.

I have yet taken apart the original engine (Its seized up) once I have it apart I'll rebuild it, hopefully it'll just require a new top end.

Now that the engine is out, the gas in my GSX has been sitting for quite some time, is this the best time to take fuel tank out & drain? whats the best cleaning solution for gas tanks?

Thanks Timmy
