96 gsx won't start

Hey guys, my 96 gsx has compresion has spark and fuel and won't start up. It has a new carb rebuild and new top end. What's wrong with it? Can it be the electrical box messing with the timming?? It keeps fluiding out. Help me out , please!!!

Hey man. Is the engine turning over at all, or is just completely dead when you hit the start button?

no the pistons pump freely, i just can't get combustion and it backfires but won't start up.

Ok gotcha. You say fuel's good, sparks good, compression's good. Your right on with ignition timing. Look in your manual on page 158 there is a good test for it.

thanks, but can a bad electrical box throw off the timming???

Yeah it could. Before you get in to all that try triming your plug wires back a 1/4" and hook everything back up. You maybe getting spark but it could be weak.

you said it has new top end?? are the pistons installed in the right direction?
that would make it not start. or the mag cup in the wrong could as well.
