2004 RXP shutting off randomly

Hey guys, I need a little help diagnosing a problem.

At random times times using random amounts of throttle (while engine hot and cold) the pwc will shut off. At high and low speeds. Going straight and turns and spins. There is no consistency to what is going on, so I thought fuel first. Treated fuel with stabilizer (for ethanol) and added octane booster to the 93 octane already in it and 3 different tanks are doing the same thing. So it's not fuel. Checked battery (brand new this season) and connectors are ok. I was thinking a short in the kill switch, but messing with it (pushing in harder, turning, etc) doesn't change it. It starts up strong each time so it's not the plugs. It'll just keep on shutting down. And after it shuts down a dozen times or so in 5 minutes, I'll disconnect the killswitch. Once in a while when I plug it back in, I hear a quiet and quick revving of the engine (just like when the engine is having a hard time starting). Except that revving is only when the killswitch is being pushed on (no engine start). Now I'm thinking a short of some sort, but I have no idea.

Never had a problem with it before, maintenanced at the end of the season since I bought it new. Any ideas guys? Trying this first since if I take it to a dealer with a random problem I'll be paying for nothing.

Thanks a ton!!

You may have an air restriction, or you may also have a damaged motherboard or a fuse. Certain electricals on the jetski can get knocked causing them to function incorrectly. Also what i do after i take my jetskis out of the water is to disconnect ALL electrical connections in the engine and motherboard and spray the connections with WD-40, this helps to stop the water mucking up the connections. Also try taking your battery out of the ski and charging it, little things like this can cause weird and unusual problems. Good luck man!

check your battery and charging system to start replace your plugs if they never been replaced

Thanks for the tips, I'll go back and check the little things again. Today when I took it out it was shutting off for 5 min or so (after riding in no wake zone for 5 min), then it was fine for 2 hours!! I'm guessing electrical (or maybe still fuel system). No errors and no jumping of the engine like I have bad fuel. She's fresh water only. We'll see next time I go out if it happens again - it'll have to be a short then I guess. Checked batt already, brand new, and connections are nice and snug. I'll cross my fingers!

And by the way...how's that 2011 rxp x? I sooooo want to add that one!

Best thing I ever spent my money on it's amazing only got 7 hrs so far so on the learner key so far

7 hrs on the learning key?!?! That's hilarious!! How is it going to compare to my 2004 rxp? obviously off the line it'll be faster, but my top speed is 72 ish. Any other improvements? I look forward to the bike throttle grip and the brake.

Yea have to break in the motor on the learner key for ten hrs then do the first service and the rxpx does not have the brakes

Ahh, I gotcha! Too bad on the brakes. What's your purchase price? I am looking at them, I'm just not sold on the yellow. My current rxp is green/black.

oops sorry, I was looking at your yellow xp when I wrote that. I was thinking the 2012...that one is yellow...it looks pretty sick.
