I see! I think if you can calibrate your new tach to show about 7000 RPM at full speed (49MPH) then it'll be very close to correct.

I expect your original tach may have had water in it at some time, the movement corrodes inside when that happens and it's a very common failure for many boat gauges. Hope isn't completely lost though, Seadoo gauges are "waterproof" so it might be possible a wire somewhere is disconnected.

I'm sure you have the electrical schematic so at least you can check to see if 12v power and ground are reaching the gauge but further than that might be difficult unless you can measure frequency on your multimeter then you can check for the pulse from the engine ignition.

I'm not sure about another easy way to check the seadoo tach at the moment but I'll think about that.

Do you think when i disconnected and reconnected the spark plug wires had anything to do with it?

Nothing to do with spark plug wires.

Didn't know it was working and now it's not working, then probably a lose connector somewhere. Tach signal comes from grey wire of MPEM connector #1 pin 3 to tachometer. Also 12v gauge supply is solid purple color and black ground must be present as well, so look for some connector that may have been disconnected.

Meanwhile I'll try to think of a way you can test further, what kind of multimeter do you have, does it have frequency counter? How did you connect the new tachometer, it's only getting RPM signal from plug wire or somewhere else?

No no the the wires come to a clip that connects to the gauge and the clip came off. I was working in the front storage area and removed cover so it must of came off than. The gauge was not working at all just the hour/ tach connected to the spark plug wire.
