I have a 2001 Seadoo GTX DI 951. The battery was going bad so I decided to replace it. I have replaced this battery a million times with no issues. Here is the problem. I went t Walmart and bought the CORRECT battery as it was listed on the box. The battery looks exactly the same as my old battery when I removed it from the box. The problem is that the battery in the box was not the battery listed on the box. When you put the batteries together side by side, one battery is about a 1/4 smaller. The issue is the the terminals on this new battery were reversed. The negative and positive were on different sides. Unknowingly, we installed the battery and it blew the 30 amp fuse inside the box that houses the starter solenoid and the ignition coils. I replaced the fuse and the seadoo fired up and ran like a top for about 30 seconds and then started to misfire. We drove the jet ski about 30 feet and it would stall out. It kept doing this all the way back to the dock. Again, when you start the jet ski ski it runs great for about 20 to 30 seconds and starts to misfire. Is it possible that one of the ignition coils got screwed up when the battery was reversed? I'm guessing that when the coil starts to warm up it misfires. Before this battery screwup, the jet ski rode great with no issues. Does anyone have any experience with this because no body wants to work on these older DI's.
