I have a 1997 seadoo gs and the ignition button on the handle will not engage the starter. If I take the starter solenoid out and cross the posts, then I can start the beast. Does this mean bad solenoid? I checked and the 15 amp fuse is good in the box.

Thanks for any help

Can be the start button, fuse at the MPEM, or bad solenoid.

Test to see if you get 12 volts at the trigger wire at the solenoid With the lanyard attached and the start button pushed. If you do, then the solenoid is bad.

Check all your fuses. In the mpem box and also check fuse in the box where the coil is. For a quick easy start button test. Find the connection under handle bar and jump the terminal. If it cranks you know its the switch

What terminal are you speaking of under the handle bars? There is nothing under the handles besides wires and the steering mechanism.

i replaced the solenoid with a brand new one, I am having the same issue. Would you have another Idea?

Thanks either way.

I think he means trace the wires leaving the red start stop button to its 2 pin black connector, separate the connector and jump the two pins (terminals some call them ) and see if it cranks. When I say jump I mean connect those two wires in the connector that you unplugged. On most of my skis one wire is yellow, one is red. Not sure if same on yours but quite possibly.

This would simulate you pressing the red start stop button and closing the switch contacts inside signaling to spin engine over.

This test tells you the switch is culprit or wiring from switch to that black 2 pin connector under steering near front gray ebox that you just unplugged.

So hard wire them together? Can I remove the wires without having to use the soldering iron?

No don't hardwire them together just use a short piece of jumper wire this is a temporary test

No

Above I mentioned the 2 pin black connector, and jumping the terminals within them...no wire cutting necessary. This is a diagnosis test to see if switch is bad.

You are going to jump the terminals in one of the black connectors you unlatch.

First find the black connector under steering area then we can go from there

One yellow wire and one red in this connector?

I would post a pic of the connector so you don't smoke something but basically jump the connector and see if it turns over. DESS key needs to be on just like your about to ride it.

Did you take a picture of the connector and jumper? You might be connecting the wrong side.
What is battery condition?
