hello everybody im new here and just traded a 2005 ltz400 atv for this boat.boat is in pretty good shape owner firedup both engines in my garage and said they had 150 each cylinder-im going to check this today and see what I get but they did fireup with no problems.
it looks like im going to have to do some wireing work--he was holding 2 wires to a car battery to fire it up and im thinking this ski should have 2 small batterys right?
looks like a bolt is broken off on the exhaust on one engine so will need to fix that to.
im going to download a manual today sometime.
he has also given me 2 rebuild kits for the jet pumps they consist of bearings and wear rings for both pumps.

first thing im going to do is clean it up some

I will post all my questions right here on this post-thankyou everybody and feel free to advise me now any pointers?

ok guys did the compression check-
left engine as you are seting in drivers seat----145---150
right engine 130----135

this should be ok right 130-135 seems low but should be fine right?

Post some pics!! That one engine might need a rebuild in a few years. Power steering- I don't think so.

here is the picture I think he hooked this up to have a oil box the main box is not where its suppose to be.
can I drain the gas tank and just put 32-1 premix in as long as there is no oil pumping through the carbs?

You never know what you will find on a used boat or ski. This is a new one to me........You can go pre-mix but I believe on those engines you need to loop the oil line so it lubes the rotary valve or something. Hopefully someone will chime in that has done it before.

yep he got rid of the resovor I found 2 hoses on the other engine with no oil to it so I have now stoped running the engines
I downloaded a manual so I have one now
thank god I just fired them and shut them down 2 times each nothing is hurt.
yes I could use some advice here on this problem
also the engines are like out of sink on the carbs 1 butterfly half open when the other is closed
where should I start on this thing im going to fix it and fix it right if I could run premix that's what I want to do?

As mentioned, some engines have lube oil that is rerouted and you MUST keep the tank even if you premix. I do not recall which engine off hand. Lou will know, give him some time to check back in.

yes im going to have to buy a used reservoir im pretty sure I just looked on ebay don't see any on there.i guess if I have to buy the reservoir I should probly hook it up the right way right.
yes need advice on this one reservoir is mia but the neck and cap are their lol

man I hope you stole this thing at a good price...
I`d go over the entire boat after seeing some of this work...

premix is good at 40:1, use good oil, don`t skimp...

hey Joe, yeah, there are several ways to go about if you know what to do... individual tanks, common tank like oem, or even a sight glass, but the key thing is to have volume in case a seal craps out and sucks the oil into the engine, then we all know what happens shortly after that...

Minnetonka4me has MANY parts for skis, he may have a tank for your boat...

I traded a z400 that I never rode probably worth around 1500.00 im ok with the trade I got the titles and im going to fix this thing up right and use it.
I have 3 atvs left no big deal

another scenario is to run 2 smaller catch can type tanks, or oil tanks with send and return lines to each engine... with premix you want to keep the rotary shaft/bearing in an oil bath. something that you can visually inspect would be better so you`ll know if there is a rapid drop in oil volume.

ok palerider I will keep that in mind im pretty sure im understanding what you are talking about I may end up routing the lines for a loop on the lubing of the lower end but not sure yet.
im going to find a stock reservoir and then see what way I want to go-I got my Yamaha venture 1100s setup for premix and its just a pain to mix up all that gas for both of them so I might take this one back to stock so I don't have to do that.

lol, I have a 40 gallon tank in the Challenger, I`m lucky to burn 15 gallons on an outing, so I have 3 5 gallons jugs to mix and dump in the boat as necc... I never fuel up at a marina or fuel dock, always buy service station fuel and mix.

same goes for my past GP1300, been premixing for years...

run through my build thread to get an idea of what your looking at. we have different engines, but you`ll get the jist of things...

JMHO,
I would download a manual and read it before getting too deep into any repairs or maintenance items.
Good luck!

Oil pumps work good as well. Never have seen one fail.

ok guys here we go found the second problem as you are setting in the drivers seat I need the throttle cable for the right engine behind the driver.i guess they don't make them no more, the one that's on it is like 2 tf to long it looks like a joke the way the length is on it.i read somewhere that the 1800 is the same cables can anyone give me a part number for both cables?

as far as the oil tank I might not find the oem tank so I may have to make one

jesse I have downloaded a manual already,im just finding problems I don't really even need to look at it much, this thing is a mess the guy that had it said he did not know anything about it so he giveup working on it.im not givingup I have 2 good engines and the rebuild kits for the jets she just needs a whole lot of love right now and she will run great

pale rider I watched your build and I must say this one is in worst shape than what you had,im starting to wonder if I should just pull both engines-both jets and start from scratch.
if I put this thing in the water im afraid it might endup on the bottom with me still in the drivers seat woundering what the hell happened

im finding wires all over the place not even hookedup
throttle cables bad
no boot on out drive shaft
2 bolts missing from head by air intake
oil reservoir gone (he has the hoses clamped with vice grips so I did get 3 new pairs of grips)
toggle switch under steering wheel have no idea on this one it is wired in to something
fan does not work haven't checked it out yet
carbs and choke are not even in sync
left engine not getting fuel
im going to stick with it to the end like you did

Woah. Well I hate to be another bearer of bad news but I think the guy got the best of the deal. I posted in your welcome thread the one we fixed up....well we started with $800 into that boat. It needed 2 motors, 4 rebuilt carbs, 2 rebuilt pumps, 2 control cables, and a bunch of other stuff. In the end we did make a good profit, but only b/c the hull was in such great shape and everything was unmolested.

Sounds great. I always like to get projects the need some love.
Not sure about the 1995 speedster throttle cable lengths, but you can find most any cable you need at http://www.shopsbt.com/
