I suggest pulling the head to check the cylinder walls. You will also be able to see the top piston ring. Check the gap where the ring comes together. It should be pretty tight, like to where you can barely stick mechanical pencil lead in there. Also, you can check out the cylinder walls and see if they're scored. Pulling the head is fairly non-invasive, as the two o-rings on top can be reused. Just apply the proper loctite to them when reassembling.
