because a float switch will work if you leave the ski in water overnight. the original style wont unless you have the key on
 
You got it CR! Im a bit stressed about sinking this thing having lost a CF Bullet HX in Pacific Ocean. Im missing all the internal layer foam. The float switch has to come up two inches deep of water to kick in. Been running these for decades and they are tough as hell. Cheap insurance! (:

They have one with out the float it has 2 electrodes when water completes circuit it comes on
 
Lol.. thought about just swapping vin from donor xpl. They use a special rivet thats noticable. My first CF xpl i just ran dwn to local Sheriff for inspection. Had a trophy shop build a tag and all was legal. And yes I wanna ride too dang it. My excitement is causing to hurry through simple tasks..gotta slow . Only 120 days into building a Seadoo from scratch! (: Target is July. So my plan is just assemble this shiz show with ugly cosmetics and test-tune to validate concept even works. The september tear down top for radical paint scheme. Motor has arrived to Hartford Conn for rebuild by Chris McClennan. Had to put brakes on 350hp build and settle for 250 range. Should be fine in a 450lb boat.
 
Made huge progress on most challenging part of this build. If this driveline set up works, I will be overjoyed! Dropped of parts to machine shop today, their response was " challenge accepted!" Spent 5 hrs building bearing carrier. Stepping to larger diameter shaft size presents a complicated puzzle for assembly, durabilty, serviceability and just flat safety. Spinning a two piece drive line at 8500 rpm between my legs, that I Budweiser engineered, has me concerned. Here is some photos.

They must be left coast rivets then, cause the ones on all my skis are regular rivets that I could get from the hardware store. Now in the automotive world they use special rivets

Alrighty! Let me tell you a story. Circa 98, shipped a full race HX 787 conversion from Florida to Oregon. $7800 shipped. Arrived, promptly rode at lake, then pulled over for no tags. Sheriff inspection finds no Vin ( HIN) on boat. Surprise to me too!. Even floor vin was gone due to engine cradle mod. Authorities took Hx. Seller over nighted legit HIN tags to Sheriff. He had removed rear for repair. The time length and effort that marine patrol went to research through Seadoo the legitamacy of this boat was overwhelming. I saw documents from Seadoo showing " how to identify stolen boats" that would make you guys say " wtf". the rivets had a special character documented in photos. 2 weeks later they proved the legality of boat by HIN decal hidden under top deck lid. ( OEM SD). So I got HX back with citation of " possesion of boat without HIN" and a class A misdemenor . Summary is I Dont mess around with those faxed SD documents anymore. (: BTW... dismissed case in court, my lawyer rocks. $15k is a lot for an HX thinking back. (: Seadoodoc CSI file #34.
 
Good thing they solved literally every other crime in the known universe before tackling such a life threatening issue as a 20 year old ski without a sticker.
 
Big Kudos to my kids 17 yr old friend for doing some super pro welding on my water box. Notched side, partial gut internally, relocated inlet and reverse flowed WB . Anyone know what sensor is? Over heat sensor?

learning as I build. 4 tec exhaust is bottled dwn from 2.75 id to 2.25 id outlet on hull. Assume with mods, this non condusive to performance gain. Riva 3 inch outlet onda way!

partial sidetracking- is there a thread where you discuss splitting the top and bottom decks, and the 'lambo door' (hahahaha) mod on the X4 seat?

Funny you ask Adam! Just tallying up some numbers recently . I think I am in the $10k range. Likely be another 4k in all said and done with a ridiculous custom paint job. Really considered just buying an rxpx outright for $9k and then said screw it.! Lets build it! God forbid my wife finds out. (:

I think I have dedicated 50% less time to project " bling" vs just functional engineering. Reources are key to fast efficient project builds. Hard to build a Seadoo from scratch in 6 months!
 
Nice. That's something I don't have in my carbon fiber hulls. I've thought about the fact that they would sink like a stone.
