I see one huge problem.
What lake or ocean have you been to that has a charging station on the beach.
So 30-45 minutes and your day is done.

And for the price I think I would buy the new Kawasaki SX-R and a Superjet.

Just an idea: unless it would have a detachable power pack that you could charge out of the water and that you could own several power packs. Then it may be interesting. This is how drones work.

This has been tried multiple times by multiple companies in the last decade..

But technology has evolved so quick in the past five years that it could become possible in a 5-year horizon. And imagine: a much quieter engine with faster linear acceleration.

We can dream...

Interesting. Wonder how long it takes to recharge and how much current it would need to recharge? (I'm thinking portable generator to recharge it). It's a start anyway. Cool idea!

Big problem I see is the target customer.......The granola type aren't riding skis I'd bet.

I mean if I'm gonna piss money away it's gonna be on the hovercraft golf cart........and I can just about hold it together for 18 holes of mini golf but this would get me thru.

Trying to figure out what I can use my hammacher schlemmer gift card on. Finally used the one for Sky mall magazine.

Or this little diddy...................

I often ride after work, weekdays, and 1/2 hr or so would be just fine for that.
I'd actually like to take this, with a bunch of cameras to an 'electric only' lake. just for people's reaction as you blow by at 40 MPH!

Not to mention the submarine moves you could do w/this. It would never have to come up!

People were just as skeptical about the horseless carriage 100+ years ago... you just don't remember it because you were not born yet :)

in 30 years electrification will be the norm, and smokers will be a memory :)

Charge time with a standard 110V outlet like most small generators is 8.9 hours. So pretty crappy and you are still burning gas to charge on the generator. At this time a SuperJet and a couple gas cans is so much cheaper, faster and easier.

I love that it is called the "Gratis" but is $18,000. You know that gratis = Free.

LOL, they pretty much put that on everything here. It is so stupid that nobody even thinks twice about them since everything gives you cancer now.

That warning was on the back of the skullcandy ear buds I just picked up for my son. It made me wonder just where people in Cali put their ear buds if it effects reproduction............

Actually, if it were like a drone, you haul you power pack to your home, plug it and you can even own a few power packs (lets says the size of a car battery for a ski). You insert the power pack under the seat and it gives you, lets say, one hour of riding time (about the same as a gas tank). You could even have two power packs in lieu of a 15 gallons gas tank.

If you are in a hurry and a big rider, for 500$ bucks (I believe), you can have a 240 V plug in your home and in a few hours, you are fully charged. As I said, you could also own a few power packs.

Of course, hauling a gas can is still easier today. But in the long term, I believe electricity will win over petroleum. Or there is another clean alternative: hydrogen fuel cell.

Benji.

Well, the batteries for this ski are $3,000 each so I don't think you will buying multiple ones to take with you.

Might as well buy a bunch of X4's and instead of refueling them get a fresh one off the trailer, LOL.

Unless you fill the motor with water.
Don't get me wrong as I am all for it but we just aren't there yet with the technology or the price.

You're right. It's like asking an electric car to tow a big boat and trailer for 200 miles. It will get there but not yet (but I guess you could tow something small for a very short distance going electric).

Benji.

Model X can tow 5,000 lbs ;)

I've always wanted to build an electric GTX based on like the 2005 GTX or so... but the cost is $$$ :(

Smart idea, but just like with early electric cars, the range and charging times just aren't good enough yet. Now the electric cars are much better. However, I'm not so sure people that use jet skis and boats that go through gallons and gallons of fuel at WOT really care about the environment. I care a little bit but skis are just too fun!
