Where is the MPEM located?

I've read many of these posts and replies suggesting to look at the MPEM - but when I search, to find out "just where is the mpem located" I'm sorry but I can't find the answer.

Therefore, on my '96 GTX, could someone please help me identify the following:

The black box near the battery?

The black box, port side, up front, in the bow?

The electronics in the handlebar (is this the mpem?)

I have a ski with whacky electronic signals, red lights I don't trust, no tach, no speedo, and now the thing dies - it appears - when the battery runs low on juice. I'm not charging for some reason, but I can't check the three yellow wires of the stator if I can't find the mpem that I've read their in.

I paid the $10, I have the manual, but it hasn't jumped out at me (yet?).

The black box near the battery? electrical box (contains starter relay, 1-2 fuses, and controls spark plugs

The black box, port side, up front, in the bow? MPEM

The electronics in the handlebar (is this the mpem?) nothing electronic here, unless your counting the compass.

Thank you, now to do some investigating.

I also re-read my note, I'm looking where "they're" located, not their.

Don't know what sabertooth was trying to say, but....


The GRAY electrical box is on the left side, toward the front. Pull the bucket out of the hood, and you will see it. Your MPEM, and CDI is in there.

The black box by the battery is... well... by the battery. The solenoid, and coil is in there.


All that is in the handle bars is the buzzer, and a few buttons.
