I went out today to check the level of the counterbalance oil and I can't even find the plug to remove! I have the 947. Could anyone please tell me where it is on the engine? thanks (I did it again... put this thread in the pwc instead of sport boat ... sorry)

Unless you are rebuilding the bottom end or you have sunk the engine there is no reason to check this. I'll assume you meant the 951 engine. This engine is different than the 787's and others. It does not have a rotary valve.

If your just dying to know how to change it you'll have to remove the engine to get access to it. There is a allen plug on the bottom of the engine. When rebuilding or changing this oil you must add 40 mL (1.35 oz) of motor oil SAE 30 to the counterbalance shaft gear through the crankcase filler plug.

I'm sorry, I have the 947 engine. This came straight from my owner's manual, it's part of the items to be inspected:

GENERAL
Fire extinguisher condition/mounting ➁➃ O
Lubrication/corrosion protection ➀ ✔ ✔ O
Inspect safety lanyard DESS post and
emergency stop ➁
ENGINE
Head bolts, retorque ✔ ✔ D
Support and rubber mount
condition/tightness ✔ ✔ D
Exhaust system fasteners/hoses➃ ✔ ✔ ✔ D

The plug on the 951 is located just under the main cooling line that goes into the engine.
