I guess it would depend on how you define best. The best in durability and reliability? My 1972 Ford Maverick when I was 16. Had a straight 6 with a 1 barrel carb that couldn't be killed. That car was mudded, bogged, raced, jumped and drifted by a 15 yr old kid. Me. It seriously took a licking and kept on ticking. Finally sold it in 1984 with 100k plus.
Best car for loading up the gang and going to the drive in theater? My dad's 1968 Ford Country Squire station wagon, complete with the faux wood trim. 390 cubic inches of waaaay too much power for a teenager.
Best car for impressing a date in my one horse town growing up? My mom's 1973 MGB. You could absolutely count on it breaking down and leaving you in the middle of nowhere. Perfect time for necking and petting while you waited for the next car to come by.
Best car for fooling the cops and driving like a stark raving idiot? My 1985 Ford Crown Victoria unmarked, retired, police car. That was more fun than should be allowed by law. Oh, wait, it was....
More to come.
