What's different about the Wake edition?

A few questions about the Wake edition Sea Doos.

I know they have racks on the footwells and the bladder deal that you can put on the back of the ski along with the pylon, but what makes them better to pull wakeboarders? They've got a 155hp engine, right? Is it tuned different for more torque? Also, what was the first year for this ski?

I just purchased a 215hp wake. From what I recall the 155hp model does not come with the ballast system but can be purchased later. I already have a few hours on this ski and let me tell you I love it! It pulled everyone out of the water with ease. I held about 5500rpm during the pull and as soon as they come out of the water you have to back off the throttle. It becomes hard to hold anything below 16mph as you drop off plane around 14-15.

The ballast system is sweet! It adds 200lbs to the rear and increases the wake quite a bit. I was surprised how big the wake was. I'm still just started to wakeboard as were all my friends but I can see that I will be able to do much more this this ski. The ballast system also has foot holds and the ski pole has handles. These combine to make a very stable platform for the spotter. I found I was very stable there even with moderately aggressive maneuvers when turning around to get the swimmer.

I would think the 155hp model might be a little down on power but I think the difference would be that rather than hold 5500 rpm you would just give it full throttle and everything else would be the same. It might run into trouble if you added the ballast system to it but I think it would still pull anyone out of the water just not with the same speed. The 215hp is over kill for sure! But that's what makes it fun when you're solo!

I hope this helps you out. I don't know when the first year of this model is and my friend who has his own ski commented that if anyone wanted to buy a three seater that this is the one to get hands down. It will do EVERYTHING you would ever want to do and does even more than the others with the added wake parts. If you want to do donuts and spins this isn't the ski just like all other three seaters this one won't spin out like a 2 seater. It will nearly stand on end with full ballast, 3 people, full nose up trim, and 5500rpm.
